Here in Florida, carry is prohibited in any hospital that provides mental health services.

Take time for yourself. Stuff like this takes a while to process. Talk about it or post when you feel like it. Your wife is probably trying to process it all as well.

Very, but it's the law here as well.

Anyway, as long as there are no metal detectors or security check, I'd carry anyway. Screw 'em.

Yep.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Wife and I are doing fine.

The crazy thing about this that I thought about much today is how the state of North Carolina is bending me over the barrel on my CCW. I moved here last August, made an appointment for the CCW class, did that in December. First appointment to turn in my paperwork for the permit was today, June 18th! I expected to get it today, instead, I got fingerprinted, paid $95, and was told I should have it in 90 days!
Now, not only does that delay my ability to carry, but in NC you have to either have the CCW to purchase a handgun, or pay $5 and make an appointment to pick up a "purchase permit" to buy.

I got busted carrying in a hospital recently. I think someone ratted me out. Luckily, the security guard asked me to leave it in the car from now on.

Hospital where I had my post-covid heart procedures done has metal detectors at the entry doors, as does the one nearby. However, other facilities of the same hospital chain that do not have mental health areas do not have metal detectors and are not posted for no-carry.

I take that to mean that the local hospital chain gets it, and is just following the law as written, not trying to make a statement.

Same in Michigan. And, yes: It's stupid.

Criminal Enterprise Zones in Michigan:

  • Hospitals
  • Public and private elementary schools
  • Children's day care facilities
  • College residences
  • On Michigan or Wayne State University grounds
  • Sports stadiums
  • Any entertainment venue with seating more than 2500
  • Bars where the primary source of income is the sale of alcoholic beverages
  • Gaming houses or casinos
  • Courthouses and courthouse grounds
  • Any place of worship
  • Restricted airport areas (Duh)
  • Where restricted by Federal law (Duh)

Yep.

Only problem with that, in Michigan, at least, is if you get caught you can be arrested, charged, and lose your carry license. (Don't recall if that'd result in a suspension or revocation.)

Just seeing this and glad you and family are OK. Good on you for being aware and helping the victim. I was 15 ft or so from a shooting a few weeks ago - first time for me. Flanigan’s Deerfield beach, some guy got angry and shot up a truck on the road right next to us. Will catch your attention.

Look at it this way - chances of being in something similar are low, like being hit by lightning twice. I’m definitely more aware since then. Good luck on the CCW.
