Mine has been on for 2 years. Every time it is re set, it comes back on a day later. Cat converter is supposedly the issue. I switched to 93 octane and it runs fine with the light on. 2016 Honda CRV with 418,000 miles.

There are other things that can go wrong with it, but this is the easiest.

My opinion too, purge solenoids were a common replacement item when I was in dealership parts.

I like the Homer method, cover it up. I know in areas with inspection requirements may not be so easy.

Vast majority of the time it’s emission issues, including the gas cap. I have other wheels on my truck now, drives fine with the tire pressure monitor light on.

If simple & low cost, whatever, fix it. I’m one to not worry about it.

For $20 you can get a cheap OBDII scan tool that will clear codes without having to disconnect your battery and reset everything.
Most likely you need a new gas cap.

Coworker had, I think, the same code on his Colorado. It was the vent valve under the hood. Took him 10 min to change.
Hopefully yours is an easy fix.

This forum is the best thing!

I have a 2015 Suburban. On occasion it throws a check engine light and as stated elsewhere in this thread, I then lose remote start ability. In June through September, when it's over 90 degrees and over 90 percent humidity, that remote start sure makes life more pleasant.

Whenever I get a light I go to my local repair shop and they will read and clear it at no charge. But sometimes it might take a few days to get by there.

On Wednesday I had the light come on. I swung by the shop that afternoon. It was some emission code, they said do not worry about it. It was the same code the truck had thrown about a year prior. I went on my way.

Then the truck had the light come on again the next day. I was not happy since we have a trip planned next week and the lows will be in the 20's. Again, that remote start will make life much more pleasant.

Thinking of this thread, I hoped on Amazon and $20 and 48 hours later I have a code reader in my hands. I just used it to read and clear the code.

It never would have occurred to me to look for something like this, cause I had no idea they could be had for $20.

Good job SigForum.

They’re handy.

You can also use it to periodically check your codes should you decide not to make the repair for a particular code.

For example:
My check engine light has been on for 2 years. The part to make the light go off is $4,500. I use my code reader every couple days to see if any new codes show up.

Yup. The code it threw last year and again on Wednesday has something to do with the catalytic converter. That's why my repair guy said do not worry about it. He said they are stupid expensive and there is no sense in replacing those items for a simple check engine light when there are no issues with the way the vehicle runs.
