We're also taking a leap in assuming that it's "child pornography". How do we know that the nude body the face of the student was attached to was in fact underage (unless blatantly obvious of course)? And is a 14-year-old face placed on an 18-year-old body considered "child pornography"? Sure, it may make some pervert think that it is, but are we suggesting that we legislate thoughts? This one ain't cut and dried. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

I’m surprised it’s taken this long to become news. I’m willing to bet this happens daily. It’s already been pointed out that it’s been happening since photoshop has been around. I have no doubt pictures of girls faces have been taped to pictures in Playboy before computers were around. It doesn’t make it acceptable but it certainly isn’t new. The fact that you can press a button on your phone and send embarrassing images to an unlimited number of persons makes this bigger news, where before it was limited to passing around a picture in class or on the bus ride home. They are old enough to face the consequences of their actions. Make it sting. I wonder how these young fools would feel about being made to wear skirts and bikini tops and washing these girls cars every weekend for a whole summer. All while the girls take pictures of them.

Or better yet, wearing skirts at school for a whole semester.

This is outside my area of expertise professionally, but I have taken a few training courses related to internet crimes, including one that dealt with crimes against children. All images uploaded to the internet are already logged with a unique identifier. Some images that are known to be child pornography are flagged by that number and if that image identifier is seen moving across a network the various infrastructure companies flag it and forward the report. Once that image is legally "certified" (my word not theirs) as child porn, the file itself no longer be opened for investigative or court proceedings. The identifier is enough to declare it for what it is. It is also then tracked so that when it pops up in another case it is flagged as to where the original case was happening and investigators are put into contact with each other. This crosses national lines. It really seemed to be a good system that I'm certain is evolving as technology and society continue to evolve. Of course, as mentioned this can be defeated by modifying the picture in any minor but substantive way (changing a few pixels) but the process just repeats itself once discovered and the new identifier is flagged as child porn and added to the database and watch lists. It has been several years since I attended that course and I've never actually worked in that arena... I declined when the opportunity crossed my desk. It is important work that should be done, but not for me.

Of course this is a big deal contrary to what some posters here have said. It’s just fake so what’s the big deal? Using that very simple minded logic child pornographers could legally produce any child pornography they wanted. It’s just fake right? What’s the harm right? I don’t even think it’s illegal right? Fuck. Of course this is a big deal. Of course this is illegal or if it isn’t then it’s a technicality/loophole that will need to be closed. Do you want to live in a country where you can have people producing child pornography but it’s perfectly legal because the only real element is the face of your grandchild? Everything else, including a child’s genitals are computer generated, they are AI produced, it’s fake, so it’s ok right, no harm right, why should the police even be involved right? I can’t believe we are even considering the idea that this is ok. It most definitely is not. Please tell me no one here thinks child pornography is ok as long as AI generates it? That is sick. Yes, police need to be involved. Whoever/whatever is necessary needs to be involved to stop this cold.

A bunch of child porn with messed up hands and feet. Not at all shocking that teenage boys would think this is a good idea though.

It will be interesting to see where this legally ends up. Are AI nudes an improvement because no young model (i.e. frequently sex trafficked girl) are involved? Suppose a high school boy uses AI to generate some nudes much like previous generations acquired Playboy. If the generated AI models have no identity is that a nude, art, or child porn? How is that judged? Now suppose they add the face of a school classmate to the AI model. Is it child porn now that the model is similar to a real person? Is there only a crime if someone is harmed, so if the boy shared the AI model the the classmate's face that causes harm and should be illegal? Lots of considerations and directions here.

Teenage boys and their ideas...They get them all the time! The 'problem' is that rarely do they reason out whether it's a good idea or a bad idea before putting things in motion! ![]() ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! I am only partially getting what this story/ thread is about. High school boys want to yank their cranks to nude chicks, But not nude Tina Louise, not nude Linda Evans , not nude Stephanie Powers. So They think that the girl in their home room is way hotter , by a long shot and put her head on a porn stars body. But they are not keeping it private they are spreading it all over the internet. And since you can't take it off the internet. The damage is done permanently. Some Dad that is having a really bad day is going to make some kids day a lot worse, when he finds the kid responsible. Nope. Looks like you've got the gist of it. "America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system,,,, but too early to shoot the bastards." -- Claire Wolfe "If we let things terrify us, life will not be worth living." -- Seneca the Younger, Roman Stoic philosopher

It’s not cut and dried true. I think the legality of it is going to come close to the privacy of it. If it’s kept private on some young man’s phone, well then nobody has been embarrassed and if the doner body was of a legal photo, there hasn’t been a child harmed or any crime committed. It’s when someone decides to pass a phone around a locker room or at band practice is where the legal issues are going to start. Let’s face it, teen boys aren’t well known for their discretion. It will be interesting to see where this goes legally.

This was a big deal in Spain in September, same deal, High Schooler made AI nudes of a bunch of classmates. Police got involved. The Genie is out of the bottle. Next will be full length movies of your choice with whom ever you want. So far two celebs are trying to stop commercials with their Deep Fake face pictching products without their permission. Going to be fun during the next election cycle.

Agreed! I think there are arguments on both sides of the legality aspect of whether this is child porn. But it seems clear to me that there is potentially great harm done to the girls' futures because of the images that appear to be of them. Iow, there is clearly a civil lawsuit potential. No different than if this involved adult women's faces being AI'd onto porn in terms of damage to future prospects for college, jobs, relationships, etc. Hopefully these images were never posted anywhere online and the girls' names are not attached to the images. At least that would reduce such future problems.

https://www.kiro7.com/news/loc...RVREPTK3K2IAQWTRR6U/ No charges as AI-generated nude pictures of female students circulate around Issaquah school By Bridget Chavez, KIRO 7 News November 08, 2023 at 8:07 pm PST ISSAQUAH, Wash. — KIRO 7 has learned from a parent of an Issaquah High School student that AI-generated pornographic images have been circulating around the school recently. We also learned that a teenage boy took photos of several of his female classmates, used AI to alter them, created nude photos, and then sent them around the school. The parent who gave us the tip wishes to remain anonymous but told us that the school didn’t inform her right away that her child was a victim. We asked the school district why they failed to let parents know about this but have not received a response. The district did confirm that there was an incident that happened in October and that it was now a police matter and the district could not comment further. We have confirmed with Issaquah Police that they are investigating this. “I’m appalled by it,” parent and grandparent, Sherri Burgess, said when she learned what happened. “I think that there should be ginormous consequences for that.” And most parents would agree with Burgess, however, attorney Debbie Silberman told us that, unfortunately, it’s not that simple. “At this moment no one has yet been prosecuted for creating a deep fake with the intention of harming both an adult, a teenager, or a child and the law needs to catch up to that,” Silberman said. She explained that there are currently no laws state or federal that address the creation of deep fake images. “What makes this story so heartbreaking is that this is someone’s likeness, this is someone’s identity, this is someone’s reputation and someone’s future and the law needs to catch up and address this very soon,” Silberman said. She said it would be a similar situation if victims were to file a civil suit. “I have not yet seen a civil case which has gone after someone who abuses the images of someone to create a deep fake naked photo,” she said. “This is really another form of violence, of technology violence that’s being used the majority of the time against women.” ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Just putting the AI generated nude pics aside for a minute. In a year, or even less, it's going to be next to impossible for the average person to distinguish anything that's AI generated from reality. That's scary! ------------------------------------------------ "It's hard to imagine a more stupid or dangerous way of making decisions, than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong."
