Get Off My Lawn |
I going through it right now, going on 5 weeks. My 2nd time in the last 3 years. It feels better compared to a couple of weeks ago, so I am on the road to recovery. I ice my foot 4 times a day, do my stretches the same amount as well. I also wear a brace at night while sleeping, my doctor suspects the cause is my foot position when I sleep at night. Had bad PF years ago, crazy painful in the mornings. Tried the shots, stretching, inserts, rolling balls and ice water bottles under feet. Wearing a foot brace at night finally fixed the problem.

My wife has been struggling with PF for about a year. She did all the stretches, the frozen drink bottle, etc., but it didn’t help. She went to a podiatrist that over the course of a couple of months gave her 4 shots in her heel. That helped only a little and the benefit was short lived. Long story short, she had surgery yesterday. We’re very hopeful that this will work. The doctor said we will know in 6-8 weeks. Anyone else had that surgery?

Miner, what was the purpose of the surgery medically? What did the surgeon do? I assume it was not a heel spur. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

The ligaments were extremely tight and she has a bone spur. They were so tight that the surgeon said they/it “popped” when he made the incision to release them. Nothing was done to the bone spur. We are very hopeful this will fix the problem. She’s been in really terrible pain for a long time.

Allow me to offer an unorthodox solution... Shorten your bed. Pile some cushions against the headboard so You will be a little scrunched between the headboard and the foot board. This means you don't have room to extend your legs fully and you can't point your toes. This will stretch your calf muscles overnight. It is far more comfortable than the boot. I had plantar fasciitis something like 15 years ago. It took me a year and a half to finally get it cured. I tried everything. What finally worked for me were prescription orthotics. I still wear them to this day. I came to the conclusion that you can ask ten people what worked for them and you will get ten different answers. I have one relative that swears by the boot. That never worked for me. Shots were only a temporary fix. PT and stretching did nothing. Message therapy did offer some relief. I had another relative opt for surgery. I recommend staying away from that. That is the last thing you want to try. I know people who have tried orthotics and say they don't work. I don't doubt them, but I personally think their problem was they were not made correctly. After wearing orthotics for 15 years I went to get a new pair and when they cam e in they were way too big. My doctor sent them back to be corrected. I don't have them back yet but if I don't like them when they come back I will have my doctor cast me instead of using a smartphone to scan my feet.
