DIL is currently driving a rental Dodge mini van. Hates it, says it rides rough and feels like a truck.

The automotive mags like the Pacifica, but don't have nice things to say about the T&C and similar models. My understanding is that the Pacifica is an entirely different vehicle, not just a dressed up T&C.

A base model Odyssey (PL, PW, AC, cloth, no entertainment to speak of) probably costs $27-30K.

A used T&C is probably running $18-22K? A Honda with similar miles and amenities is probably $24k.

I wouldn't say no to a T&C, but my history and experience with Hondas would force me into a Odyssey.

I've got an 03 Ody with 249K miles on it. I let the teenagers abuse it.

Really the only thing that matters. Plus maybe what size sub you plan on installing too.

For what it’s worth, I drive an FCA vehicle (2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk).

Now that they’ve just done away with the lifetime/unlimited mileage MaxCare warranty, there’s no way in hell I’ll ever buy another FCA product.

I would absolutely stick with Honda or Toyota. I’ve driven both, there have been two Siennas in my immediate family, and at least two friends of mine researched the hell out of minivans and went with the Odyssey when they had kids. They’re both solid vehicles.

For what it's worth, I rented a Chrysler Pacifica this past September while down in Florida. Not sure if it's the same as a T&C but the Pacifica was hands down the worst vehicle I ever drove. God I hated that thing. I'm glad I rented it though because it is a pretty good looking vehicle and I had thought I might be in the market for one soon. After driving it though, no frigging way.

Owned several Chrysler vehicles over the years. The most obvious problem is that it is made so cheap...
Things start rattling and come loose. Your car suddenly isn’t so quiet any more...
Sun roof leaked and could not be fixed, even after many attempts.
Too many parts are made out of plastic. Would not consider getting a used car from this company. Went with Hyundai and very happy. As well as Ford.

I've had five Dodge Caravans; I'm on my fifth right now, a bit over 230,000 miles, I think. They've all been 250,000 to 300,000 miles.

The weak point is the transmission. This one was supposed to have a "mercedes" transmission, but it failed at about 150,000 miles. I was away fighting fires, so had my wife take it to the dealership, where we paid something like 3,000 for a new transmission...turned out to be a rebuilt transmission. I can't even check the fluid, as the dealership removed and capped off the access port.

For the most part, the caravans have been good; they've had some problems along the way; this one is the only one we bought new. Several of them have been through transmissions, several times.

The Town and Country is the same vehicle, identical parts, to the Caravan. Same vehicle, different name.

I have a 2017 Sedona and really like it. Lots of room, lots of features, room for 7, etc.
I built a "shelf" in the rear of mine for going to Cowboy matches. Gun Cart goes on top, guns go underneath.

I CAN remove this if I want/need to.

I've already got my eye on some nice rims at Walmart and I know a guy who found some subs that fell out of the truck said he would give me a deal.

Two years ago we bought a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. We are extremely happy with it and have had no problems.

Road trips include Chicago, Arkansas and a couple to Arizona. We used to to load our booth for shows and to move stuff.

We did get the extended electronics warrently. There was a lot of electrical systems, computers and screens so it just made sense.

We got our first van, a Plymouth Voyager, in 1985. Traded it for a Dodge van and then for a 2002 Toyota. The Toyota was very good. The Pacifica better.

I have a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan.

It's been merely ok, but it's no Toyota or Honda.

I really love the stow and go seats. The system is extremely convenient when you have to cart things around.

Mechanically it's been all right in that we haven't had any major failures. We had a seal in the transmission leak that was replaced under warranty. Then we had a seal in the engine leak and they had to replace a good chunk of the valve system, also under warranty. In September, I paid a shitload of money and replaced the tires, the shocks and struts, the spark plugs, and to have a bad O2 sensor fixed that was causing the engine timing to get totally fouled up.

Overall, I'm no unhappy with it, but I don't think I would buy another one. The issues I've had are not issues anyone I've know has had with Toyota or Honda products. I probably would be willing to consider the new Pacific Vans, but chances are I'd buy a Honda.

I have experience with 3 minivans that I drive/drove and put a lot of miles on for work.

First was a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT that I received brand new. Rode rough, seats were fine but I started having engine trouble around 60K miles. I would be accelerating and the engine would depower and I couldn't go above 25mph. Had it to 2 different dealers, several times. Each time they said they fixed it and it would happen again. This went on for 6-8months till I received a replacement van at 80K miles.

Second was a 2015 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD. Loved this van. I put 84K miles on it in 2.5 years with zero issues and it rode/handled great. Its quieter than the Dodge and just overall a better quality vehicle. If I was paying I probably wouldn't go AWD (poor mpg, shitty runflat tires as you have no spare) but since work is picking up the tab, I'm fine with it Smile

Third (and current ) van is a 2018 Toyota Sienna LE AWD. Slight downgrade in trim but it's a fine van. On Jan 11, I will have had this for a year and I'll have put 40K miles from new. Once again it drives/handles/rides better than the Dodge/Chrysler vans and I have had zero issues with it. I'll probably will be ordering a new van around this time next year and I plan for it to be another Toyota.

Hope that helps.

My 2006 Odyssey still purrs reliably with 180K on the odometer. My 2016 Odyssey, likewise with 46K. It just doesn't get any better than that.

I inherited my dad’s ‘04 Town and Country tactical minivan with ugly-ass wheels when he died a few years ago. At 75k miles, it’s still reliable. It’s uncomfortable for me on long trips, as the legroom and seat position isn’t very good for a big n tall driver. Gets around 23mpg on the highway.
My bride won’t consider the idea of selling it, because it was my dad’s. Some wimmen don’t know nothin’ ‘bout machinery.

Chryslers are just plain cheap. Do not hold a candle to Honda or Toyota. And of the 2 I'd go Toyota.
