Mark Knopfler has always struck me as a virtuoso guitar player that doesn't need to prove his virtuosity. I've never seen him "grandstanding" when he plays. He simply picks up a guitar and lets his fingers speak for him. He is, in my opinion (as a 50+ year guitar player myself), a "guitar player's guitar player." The list of stars he has appeared with is extraordinary. Among my favorites are his duets with Chet Atkins.
You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

IMO, one of the last great Dylan albums is Infidels, and a good part due to producer Mark Knopfler's production and guitar work. Sonically, still one of Dylan's best.

Love Dire Straits. Someone posted a link to this video of Mark Knopfler talking about guitars some time ago and I saved it and enjoy it a lot. I never had any musical training, so it's fascinating for me to listen to musicians and how they think and do what they do.

I was a fan of him and Dire Straits but drifted away for a while. Then I rediscovered Mark Knopfler all over again. His work is so outstanding, one of my favorites is is "Real Road Running" with Emmylou Harris. This one is not so upbeat but hits the heart.
Knopfler is (in my opinion) the best combination songwriter, lyricist and musician of the last 50 years. Yes, I realize that is a big statement, I really can't think of who would be close.
He wrote the masterpiece Telegraph Road before he was 32 years old. While the first 9 minutes is about Detroit, it's also about the history of the settling of the USA. The last 5 minutes is a phenomenal guitar solo.
YouTube has numerous versions of Telegraph Road from Mark's various European tours plus several of the complete concerts.
Brothers in Arms is a close second for me.

I always go back to their first album just Dire Straits.
Really liked: Notting Hilbillies "Missing...Presumed Having a Good Time": The Notting Hillbillies were a country rock project formed by British singer-songwriter Mark Knopfler in May 1986.
I've always thought that a concert with only Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour of Pink Floyd fame would be outstanding. Both are superb musicians and I'd pay big bucks to see that.

Smokin hot band. The MFSL half speed 45rpm vinyl re-issues are flat out amazing if you have a vinyl rig. Saw them a few times in the 80s and I play their music regularly.

I just added the album to 'My Music' on Amazon and listening to it now. Calling Elvis is a great song. I'm really enjoying this album thanks to Para and his posts.

One of my older cousins, whom I looked up to and thought was super cool, introduced them to me back in my late middle school to early high school years...I think on cassette tape.
Since then, I’ve always liked their music. But not until the past 10 years did I really realize how much I appreciate and LOVE their music...and I’m 54 yrs old.
Thanks for posting that Bytes. Two of my all time favorite guitar players on one stage. Impressive to say the least. Having not a musical gene in my body I cannot understand how people can master an instrument like that. A guitar in the hands of either one of those is a part of their body and they use it as well as their mouth or eyes as if they were born with it.
I remember listening to an interview with Tom Morelo, another epic guitar player. He was talking about how he mastered the guitar. He basically said because he was obsessed. He was playing his guitar 8 hours plus a day as a kid and teenager while all his friends were out being kids. IIRC he estimated he had played his guitar for over 20,000 hours at the time of the interview. Props to anybody that can master their craft, whatever it is, to the level of excellence they display.
