Every few days I pull the crown on my Seiko Diver NH35A movement to reset the second hand, which runs a few seconds fast every day. Typically after a few days it annoys me that it’s off. Does pulling the crown like this cause wear over time? Can this movement easily be adjusted to run less fast? When fully charged and worn it runs faster than my 4R36 turtle. Is it a bad idea to try and adjust it myself? Has anyone here done it? The accuracy isn’t awful but it could be better. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance | ||

Every time you unscrew the crown and pull it out you can cause more wear. You also take the chance of cross threading the crown when you re screw the crown back down. The movement can be adjusted if my memory is correct. COSC chronometers that are certified run -4/+6 seconds per day and is considered accurate. Unless you have the tools to remove the case back and adjust the watch it may be difficult to do. You also have to take into consideration being able to make sure the watch is still water resistant once you put the watch back together again. I would bring it to a watch shop that does repairs and ask how much they would charge you to regulate the watch and pressure test it after they are done. Depending on how fast or slow it is running they may not want to regulate it. It may also only need to be de magnetized if it has been magnetized. This is also something a watch repair shop can do.
