I have some vertx and 5.11 jeans that I almost exclusively wear daily. I like the thigh pockets for mags and lights but most importantly I like that nobody notices anything out of the ordinary.

I find myself crossing through the threshold of being an old man now and want to incorporate some pants that are not jeans into my daily wear. I have tac pants but I only wear them when training, hiking or at the range. They make weird sounds when I walk because the fabric is ripstop, and they have pockets on pockets on pockets that just draw too much attention. Do I like the comfort yes, the knees and crotch are great the durability is through the roof but I just don't need the attention when I'm at walmart.

Does anyone know of a more traditional fabric or less of a plastic feeling fabric pant with a few extra pockets for spare mags but not all the different panels and pockets and tactical advertisements?

I'm searching and searching and I just keep finding full blown tactical or a pair that are normal cargo pants without the mag thigh pocket, which is really what I'm after.

Any direction I should be looking at that I might have missed?

Otte Gear- I'm a big fan of the Universal CL pant. Not overly tactical but functional for everyday without drawing unnecessary attention, their other pants range from range type to more chino style.

Kuhl- Their Rydr, Radkl, Revolvr are hugely popular over the last decade.

Dickies- I'm a fan of their Duck fabric, inexpensive and long-lasting, also comes in a variety of pocketing and cuts

Viktos- Started by the son of the founder of Fox Racing, they've been in the tactical channel for several years now, I like their denim, and the Contractor SF I see worn more and more.

Kuiu- My favorite pants right now are their Kutuna pants.

I'm always on the lookout for a pair of Mountain Khakis. Fitting can be a challenge and I have occasionally bought a few on ebay. In fact, if you are will to disclose your size, 32x32-34, I may have something for you. Instead of just donating those that are too large for me, I would love to enable your MK obsession and re-home them. They are practically new. Happy holidays.

Kuhl Renegade. Probably their most expensive unlined pants but you can't wear them out.

I own lots of these brands. Most suffer from a couple things. They either are way too tactical to wear outside the range, they use weird stretchy fabric, they look like robocop uniforms, or they have become too modern in a fashion sense.

I used to love Vertx pants. The new ones suck. 2 issues. They use this very stretchy fabric that feels disturbingly close to my wife's leggings. It is comfortable but it isn't "fabric" in the classic old man sense. The other thing is they tend to be low rise, hipster style cuts. The old stuff was great, I'm pretty much done with their new stuff. Their shorts on the other hand I still like.

Kuhl makes great stuff but I don't want the branding and the contrasting stitching that Kohl loves to do. No thanks. Robocop stuff that you can't really dress up if you need to because it screams out "I just came from a hiking trip".

I just discovered Viktos. It is pricey. If you are mil/Leo they are 25% off all year round which makes them more tolerable price wise. I have their jeans which feel and look like jeans but with a bit of give. First pair of "tactical" jeans my wife ever thought looked nice. It is because the pockets are discreet enough that they won't warrant a second glance. Lots of neat features for the money. Surprisingly the pants I like the most are their LEO DUTY trouser. Enough pockets, discreet pockets, a tiny bit of stretch but they feel like pant material not the modern style which feels like everything is some form of lycra or sweat pant material which I hate in pant pants. You can easily go from the range with AR and pistol mags in your pockets to putting on a collared shirt and going to a party without looking odd. They dress up and down very well. Right now the LEO DUTY pants are easily my favorite go to pants. Not even close.

An example, I have the VERTX jeans. They are comfortable but if I held the fabric and a pair of my wife's leggings they would feel very similar. I hate that. The Viktos on the other hand feel just like regular denim except they have a tiny bit of stretch. Side by side I can't imagine any man preferring the "jeggings" over the denim feel. Plus the Vertx style is very low on your hips, which I think is the modern style but I am not a modern style guy.

I recently ordered my first pair of Duluth Trading Company’s Firehose pants as a trial, and really like them for the size of the front pockets. Specifically, I can carry a double-stack 10mm magazine easily, without being obvious and with room to spare for other things.
My favorite pants are Orvis 5 Pocket Stretch Twill in desert khaki color. Dressier than jeans, but very relaxed and just enough stretch.
Pockets are ‘normal’, however.

I like Wrangler Riggs. The Ranger may be what you want. They are cargo with pockets on the cargo. Just look like work pants carpenter style.

My favorite is the Rigg Technician style. Lightweight ripstop fabric with thigh pocket and deep hand pockets.

Thank you for the offer but I'm 40x32 in jeans but prefer pants to be 42x32 so Unless you want to stitch a tent to them they wouldn't fit.

I have checked all the linked pants and I keep getting stuck on the thigh pocket for mag/flashlights. That is really what I'm after. They either don't have it, or they have too many.

The viktos leo duty is very appealing but they don't make any pants in 42x32 only 42x34. I'll likely try these if I can't find something similar in my size. Amazon will allow easy returns so if I have to try 40x32 I can return them if they are too tight then size up and have them hemmed.

There is a “flex” version of the firehouse pants that’s lighter weight, more normal. There are also carpenter and “foreman” cuts that are more chino-like than the full cargo pants. I like the Duluth pants as they have 36” inseams, and a gusset for full kung fu action.

I say this as I am wearing a pair of Viktos Overbeach MC Shoes as we speak. They are complete garbage. They are a warranty replacement for the Viktos Core 2s that were even bigger pieces of garbage. They completely fell apart in under 6 months.

I am cheap. So I have found that Lincoln Outfitters Flex Canvass work pants are nice. Semi hidden thigh pocket, knife clip reinforcement, double rear pockets, deep hand pockets, gusset, stretch, soft durable canvass material.

Duluth Trading. Firehouse stretch or Dry on the Fly flex.

We have buying Eddie Bauer clothing for the last few years and really like them. You can catch them online for sale at pretty decent priced. Do yourself a favor and check them out.

I especially appreciate the thigh pockets that are designed to be less obvious than cargo pocket styles. The only thing I don’t like about them is the price but they do hold up well.

Rigg Technician are a nice lightweight cotton rip stop pant. No extreme thigh pocket, but a nice phone pocket there. If synthetic is your direction KUIU has some very technical designs, with an emphasis on lightweight fabrics and stretch. Nearly all are available in solid colors. I can attest to the Attacks being “the one to have if you’ll only have one”. Cut much like a pair of jeans, they fit snug so consider a size up, though I didn’t and am happy.

These are the closest pants to what I'm looking for so far.

When I want a "tactical" pant but dont want to look tactical I go with:
Tru-Spec 24-7 Mens classic Pants.
Lots of discreet zip closed pockets for all your stuff. Poly Cotton that wash up nice and last forever. I have got them on sale for $30.

I forgot about mountain khakis. They make great stuff. You won't complain about the quality. Their pants can be hot, heavy, and they aren't going to "give" at all though if that is important.

I will keep an eye on my Viktos pants. They seem extremely well made, much better than recent Vertx pants. I haven't had them long but I have been wearing them (couple pairs) exclusively for that time frame and haven't noticed any flaws. They have a year warranty and I wear them constantly so we shall see.

It almost seems like there should be an inexpensive pant and an expensive pant thread. I have had Dickies and Tru Spec and they are fine pants. They aren't in the same league if cost isn't an issue. Ie, if I was gifted Tru Spec or Mountain Khaki or Viktos there is zero chance I would pick Tru Spec over the other two. Of course I can buy 2 probably 3 Tru Spec pants fro the price of 1 of the others.

The thing that sucks about brands like these is lots of times you have to take a leap of faith because they aren't brands you can find in a store to try on.

I wear LL Bean Riverton Pants. They are a combination of cotton (57%), nylon (41%) and lycra (2%). They have 7 pockets (the typical 5 plus a phone pocket on the right thigh and a zip pocket on the left thigh). They have a hiker/outdoors vibe instead of a tactical look. I have worn them for about 3 years and they still look good.

If you did not buy direct from Viktos you have to go through the retailer you purchased from. That made it a bit of a pain.
They did not have any more Core 2s in my size and Viktos did not have a restock date for my retailer. So I only got to choose a replacement out of what was available from my retailer. So I did not really want these Overbeaches but anything is a 13 was slim Pickens.
