We have no heat tonight. It's getting down to 22 degrees... so I've made a fire in the fireplace.

Our heat was working fine yesterday. When I woke up this morning, there was a problem. I didn't hear the blower. The furnace was on but the thermostat was reading 2* below where it was set.

I called the company that did the install. They said they could have someone here by 2 pm. No problem. He arrived and checked it out. He suspected the ECM motor. He checked the control board, but nope... ECM motor. Of course, they couldn't get one on a Sunday and can't tell me how much it will cost.

Oh well, I guess I'll find out tomorrow when they talk to the RUUD distributor. In the meantime, I've got an electric space heater, an electric blanket, and a warm wife. Smile

Best of luck and hope the repair is better and easier than expected.

A couple of years ago ours went out on a weekend in early March. The tech said to stay put and that he'd fit us in sometime the next day.

So, the wife went to stay with her sister, and I got to sleep in the living room by the fireplace.

Not sure what an ECM is...

It's the blower motor. I wasn't sure what ECM is either:

What is an ECM Motor?

ECM stands for an “electronically commutated motor” which basically means a motor that uses electronic controls to vary its speed.

Didn't realize they used EC fans in home installs now. That stinks if you lose a controller, even if the fan is good you're shot.

We are having so many problems currently at work with failing controllers on good fans.

Just a shot in the dark but mine had a vacuum switch (I forgot why) but it had a small hose running to it. When it began failing I would flick the diaphragm housing with my finger and the switch would allow the blower motor to come on. Maybe yours has a similar issue? Worth a shot.

Similar thing happened to me a few years ago…turns out my furnace filter hadn’t been change for a bit and was blocking airflow. I switched the filter, I had heat.

I had a similar issue several years back and was quoted over $700 for a replacement motor. Luckily, I was able to successfully argue that it should be covered under warranty due to a leak in the line where condensation from combustion was discharged having dripped down on to a board and the motor.

Our A/C went out this summer. The tech couldn't come for several days. We checked into a hotel with the dogs.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." A good prep to have on hand, stored in plastic bags would be military grade extreme cold weather sleeping bags. I've probably slept more nights in one than most soldiers. I also know a older Korean War Vet who stores them for he and his wife just for such a event.

Sometimes it’s nice to chill out at home. Other times, not so much. Hopefully, the distributer isn’t closed for the federal holiday.

I'm still here!
It's down to 52* inside my house.
I didn't leave the space heater run downstairs all night and the fire in the fireplace went out. I didn't want to load it up too full before I went to bed; I didn't want the fire hazard. The dog was hardest hit because she doesn't have an electric mattress pad cover.
