Look at Propper tactical shirts. They have two huge zip pockets on each side of your chest. Easily swallows my IPhone XR with case. My phone goes in one side and the other side holds my sunglasses. Tough, lightweight and available in lots of colors. Watch for sales to get them at less than 30 bucks. Both short sleeve and long sleeve are available.

How big is your phone? I just stick mine in my left front pocket. But it's only ~3x6 inches. The cargo (thigh) pocket of a cargo short or pant also works well. It is slow to get out, and when working my fingers are often greasy, but if it rings, which is nearly always telemarketers or scammers anyway, I don't feel much need to answer it immediately, especially when driving.

Front left pocket. Never had one fall out in over 20 years of carrying one there.

Maybe get one of those fancy smart watches and leave the phone in the truck?

I keep my phone in a cradle in my work truck because I use it to stream music through speakers in the truck.

While I'm sorting, I keep my phone in a pocket of my cargo shorts.

Front left pocket. Haven't used a holster or belt clip in years.....they catch on seatbelts, tables, etc., and I do a lot of bending over, so it rests safely in my pocket.

I leave it on my bench that's about 40 feet away from where I normally am. By the time I get ear plugs in and underneath the ADFLO I couldn't hear a marching band go by so I never hear it ring anyway.

How do you keep it in there while you're sitting?

Mine is not one of the jumbo size phones, I just carry in my right front pocket with the screen facing in, in a ziplock bag with nothing else.

Mark, I don't understand. Do you have an issue with buying shorts or pants with cargo pockets? There are many brands and styles to choose from.

As I mentioned previously I like Tru-Spec 24/7 ripstop cargo shorts in the summer months. But they also make these as pants as well.

I do not care for 5.11 because I do not like the back pockets. But the Tru-Spec have normal back pockets.

I typically buy mine from Galls.

I would imagine that you probably go through a lot of pants working in landscaping. So I realize price is probably a factor. But I don't think the price for Tru-Spec is too bad if you catch them on sale.

Like the Propper shirts mentioned above, the 511 ones have the document pockets behind the usual chest pockets that are velcro-closed, large enough to hold phones (and a J-frame on the other side...) and are accessible when sitting or driving.

This is what I do. My entire waredrobe is either 5.11 shirts or Columbia fishing shirts where I can carry my phone in a shirt pocket.

You could also go to bib overalls. Farmers figured out long ago that you can fit a phone and 20k cash in that front chest zipper pocket.

Good luck. Many good ideas in this thread.

P.

I have to carry THREE phones at work.

Our uniforms are the 5.11 BDU style, with the document pockets. I can easily an iphone in each of those pockets and I clip the other to a pants pocket or leave it in my car. Those shirts are fantastic for that.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

When I'm on patrol I normally carry mine in a pocket on my body armor. When I'm at training the pocket of my 511 BDU's.

A buddy uses one of them. I keep thinking about going that way and probably will. I should soon be transitioning back from a mostly desk job to an in and out of the truck all day job, which is how I've broken all my Otter box clips.

There are also brands of jeans whose pockets are larger/deeper than standard, including Duluth Trading and 5.11, among others.

True. But they are not made in the U.S.A.

I've purchased Duluth Trading Firehose cargo shorts before and the pockets were the same as typical jean pockets.

TruSpec 24/7 shorts have deep pockets and that is what I wear during the summer months.

I thought the Firehouse pockets were plenty deep, but I phone in the cargo.

I’ve been using a smartphone belt case from Black Hills Leather for a few years now. Had one that held both an iPhone 4S then later a 5, now on a new (bigger) one for an 8 Plus. I opted for their “pancake” style with the belt loops at either side of the pouch; pulls in nice and close just like a holster or magazine pouch.

I was a fan of the plastic belt-holsters that come with Otterbox Defender cases, but always broke them eventually.
