Duluth Fire Hose pants for me, both the original fire hose material and the lighter material (DuluthFlex). Well, I do lawn care so no shorts.

The Flex pants may be a good solution as long as there are pockets that aren't at hip level. I'll go look.

Had a velcro closer one once. While they are indeed very secure the RRRRIIIIPPPPPPPP sound that opening them makes attracts too much attention when you need it in quite situations.

Which is why the US Army ditched velcro and went back to buttons on the cargo pockets of their latest uniform pants.

(Plus, velcro doesn't work well when clogged with sand/dirt/mud.)

I took my bluejeans to my local cleaners and had the tailor extend the front pockets by two inches. I am able to carry my work iPhone 8 and personal iPhone XS Max in my right front pocket.

I went to my local fabric store and found a cotton duck fabric that was close to the pocket material in my jeans and bought two years. then brought the fabric with me to the tailor and told him what I wanted.

First pair I had him extend by one inch. But that wasn't enough so the next pair I had him extend two inches.

I don't know if this helps you. But at least you know the option exists.

Cost was like $10 a pocket. Worth it to me.

I've had to have a number of suit pant pockets repaired through the years which gave me the idea.

This would also work if anyone wanted to pocket carry a handgun but the pocket wasn't big enough.

If you are willing to carry a Samsung phone, some of these options may work for you

I'm an old retired sod who was unaccustomed to these large screen gizmos, so when I first got one I feared dropping it or loosing it. I've purchased Duluth Trading Firehose cargo shorts before and the pockets were the same as typical jean pockets.

TruSpec 24/7 shorts have deep pockets and that is what I wear during the summer months.
