Note that Dark Sky was bought by Apple and the app is slated to be removed at the end of 2022.

Apple should be incorporating Dark Sky app features into their own weather app.

Yep, loved the app...right up to the point Apple bought it and took it off the market for Android users. Mad

This. And I have yet to find another weather app on the android platform that even comes close to Dark Sky. Mad

Carrot. Lots of options for formatting a very nice graphical display, including whichever elements you want. And a choice of sources for weather info, one of which is Dark Sky.

Hands down the best, especially for flying/aviation. Incredible detail and graphic display of winds, etc. The paid version is so worth the few bucks.

Been using Dark Sky for about 1 1/2 years and like it. A very clean interface without ads and things they want you to click on. As with most all Apple products it works on iPhone, iPad and Apple watch.

I use android and searched the Playstore for Dark Sky. Found that app "Hyperlocal Weather & Radar Map" that says is powered by Dark Sky.

Wonder if this is the same Dark Sky ?

It is not. I downloaded it and found you have to sign up for the premium version to get any of the local rain/weather warnings. It also isn't as clean an interface as the original Dark Skies app had. Apple users got a huge win and Android users a huge loss when Apple bought and closed off Dark Skies.

Good to know, thanks for the update. Gonna delete this app and look for something better.

The "bomb cyclone" that slammed us here in the Pacific Northwest (lost power for 12 hrs, no big deal as was prepared) ... want an app that give me wind information.

I guess I'm the only one who uses Weather that comes on the iPhone and My Radar. The My Radar app shows very accurate weather and lightning activity can also show winds.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your input. I decided to give Dark Sky a shot. Initial impressions is that it should give me what I want and almost as important NOT what I want…by that I mean useless commercials and BS videos. $4 is a small price to pay if everything works out…

I use the Garmin InReach and have used their weather report but it was pretty basic. I’m going to try to use their app on the next outing. Thanks for the tip!

It appears you have some flatware ready for use by the tail light.

BTW, perhaps you dragged in a dead cat near the back wheel?? :-)

Thanks for the compliment!
The truck is a 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon that is stock. I was very impressed with the capabilities of this truck. It took us (and more importantly, got us out of) some very remote and tough places well off the grid.

On the back of the JTR is an Alu-Cab aluminum canopy that easily supports the Roof Nest roof top tent. The 270 degree awning is form OVS (Overland Vehicle Systems).

In the back is a custom drawer from Truck Vault that allows us to carry our 12 volt fridge, 20# propane tank, a 100 AH Battle Born battery and a 30 gallon water tank in the front of the bed in which we usually carry about 10 gallons or so. All the electronics are run through a REDARC 1240 BCDC controller that also allows us to use a portable solar panel.

I removed the rear seat and built a platform that we store our 4 Front Runner boxes that hold our clothes, cooking gear and electronics.

Let me know if you have any other specific questions… I did a write up on another forum here if you’re interested..
