This week I ordered a relatively inexpensive sight pusher through Amazon. I have to say it was a decent price and it arrived in 2 days just as promised.

What I couldn't believe, was that it appears they just picked one off the shelf and slapped a shipping label on it. Everything I've ordered has always been in some slightly larger Amazon box or at least a plastic bag.

The photos show just the way it arrived. The box clearly shows it's a sight tool for a pistol and it's not even taped closed.

I'm wondering if some lefty Amazon stock boy sent it that way hoping it would be stolen or at least open up and empty it's contents.

Anyone else ever had this happen? Am I overthinking this.

I've had some retail boxes shipped to me and also don't like it.
FWIW, this must have been a big deal to complain here in the Lounge rather that the What's Your Deal thread listings page? Eek

Guys... May not always be an option especially if not shipped from Amazon, or possibly a short delay if it has to go to amazon first for repacking... but it should let you know. Disclaimer: I haven't tried this, just noticed the option.

I've noticed it happens occasionally if it's a single item and the box is suitable for shipping, but what cparktd said.

What gets me is when they toss stuff of various sizes, weights, and packaging in one of those plastic bags so it can be mixed, tossed, and crushed a dozen times before landing on my porch.

You'd think they'd lose more money replacing damaged items than they save by shipping things the fastest/easiest/cheapest possible way, but apparently not.

Living between a couple of major distribution centers, its crazy the amount of stuff I can get same day - even ordering in the afternoon - so I'm happy to deal with it for the convenience.

Shipping companies seem to be doing everything possible to cut costs. Remember, while gasoline prices have been falling at the pump, if you have been watching diesel prices they haven’t fallen much. Here the price difference between gas and diesel went from about .40 cent a gallon difference to $2 a gallon difference. Diesel is still hovering around $5 a gallon here where gasoline is pushing $3.

I personally don’t think demand is why. I think gasoline will skyrocket after the November election. While introducing politics is frowned upon, it is the driving factor of shipping companies trying to cut costs where they can.

I just received a DVD player from Amazon that way, in the original box with a few pieces of tape on it, nothing else.

I haven’t opened it yet but I half expect it to be broken.

I see it once in a while also, but most items are tucked away in a nondescript box or envelope.

Agree with others have said ... but my concern is whether this is a "used" return product that someone did not want and sent back to Amazon.

Just a thought.

I hadn't paid attention to that before. It probably was an option that I missed. It was just the first time I had gotten anything that just in the original box and there have been several reports of firearm related items being stolen in transit.

Everything is in the box and it looks brand new and there's no damage to the box. But a piece of tape over the opening would have been nice.

Like I said, the price and the speed of the delivery was faster that I anticipated so I have no complaints about that. Since it seems they do send stuff in just the original box I have no complaint.

And I forgot about the "What's your deal" section. Thanks for the replies everybody. Have a good weekend. Smile

Amazon is now not just Amazon, but legions of individuals and companies that sell and ship under the Amazon banner. Something you buy on Amazon may not come from Amazon.

I had ordered a box of dog poo bags and it was delivered with just a shipping label slapped on the box.
Fortunately, they were not used and returned.

Not long ago, I ordered a set of night sights. They arrived in a box 12 inches wide, 4 inches deep and 12 inches long. With 3 of those airbag cushion things inside.

Most of the free shipping purchases I get recently come FedEx Ground.
They have gone from not great to terrible. Around 50% have have gone lost just after pickup and the rest have taken 2-5 days from the local terminal until delivery.
I read that there is some pending dispute between FedEx and their subcontractor/delivery vendor.
The most reliable right now seems to be USPS and that's not a high standard.

Yeah, I frequently receive an item maybe the size of a 20-round box of 9mm ammunition (size comparison) inside an Amazon carton that would easily hold two pair of my size 13 shoes.

I once delivered a Playstation 4 to a house and left it near their front door. No shipping box, just the original Playstation box. I tried my best to hide it but there wasn't much. I couldn't believe it.

One way to ensure you always see the 'Item arrives in packaging that shows what's inside' notice is to always 'Add to Cart' and then 'Go to Cart' instead of 'Buy Now' and/or 'Proceed to Checkout'. Once in the Cart you can select 'This is a Gift' and you will get the option to 'Ship in Amazon Packaging'. Wink

This is nothing new.
Been getting many packages this way and not just from Amazon.
First time it happened and it was from Amazon. I ordered 4 34” e rated off-road tires.
They just slapped a shipping label sticker on each tire.
Delivery dude was awesome and hid them behind my bushes and did not leave them on the porch for all to see.

My shipping bitch with Amazon is when they ship things together that I didn't order together. Has happened to me twice now. Recently I needed some new watch pins, so I ordered them. I think the next day I ordered a set of fitting wrenches. The wrenches came and were put to use. A week or so goes by and I start to wonder about the pins? So I look and it says they were delivered. Huh? Confused Yeah, they were in the now long since thrown away box with the wrenches, hiding under the shipping air bags I guess. Didn't look for them because I didn't know I needed to.

I think if you create another ship to option (same address, but under a different recipient name) it should count as a totally separate order, and not bundle them together in the same box during fulfillment.
