selogicMan, background checks are through the roof!
Two days before Christmas my wife and I went to Cabelas to buy a shotgun for my grandson . I didn't have my glasses so she filled out the 4473 and showed them her concealed carry permit . Done deal . They even had some 45acp behind the counter so I picked up a couple of boxes . The whole process only took a few minutes .

A few months ago people who came into my friends store in the mornings were told "we will call you when it comes back but it probably won't be till tomorrow"
Some background checks were taking 12 to 15 hours to come back.
I was hanging out there one day when this was going on. I watched one guy who had a 3 day wait have his background check come back in less than 5 minutes. Another customer with a concealed permit, I was told his background check took till the next day the next time I was there hanging out.
There was no rime or reason to it.
In my state a LTC/CHL holder does not have to have a NICS check.
(BTw, "rime" is a form of ice--you meant "rhyme".)

Fixed it

Thanks.

100% human. What I'm not certain of is whether it's actually a gov't employee or a hired 3rd-party consultant.
EDIT: one thing that stretches out the process these days is a change in procedure at NICS. Gun buyers that used to have to go to a next-tier check (aka 'Further Review') under the old system now automatically gets a 'Delay' classification. Under the old system that phone-in process would get kicked up to the next level NICS examiner while we then wait on hold until their determination is made or they run out of allotted time and hit whatever 'delay' button it is that they have at their computer console. Additionally, as time passes and those red flags roll off of a person's record, so goes away those customary 'delayed' checks. So what seems like random extensions by NICS really isn't. This revamped policy was put into place just before the holiday season of 2019 if I remember correctly.
Last year through the Rona times we've had 'delays' that have been as little as under an hour to no returning response from NICS, which means an approximately two-week wait (ten M-F business days) for the buyer per WA state law as opposed to 3-business days then release for the Feds. All of it contingent on just how much of a "bad person" or a "person of questionable character" the buyer has been in their past.

sdyfirst-time gun buyers accounted for approximately 20 percent of gun sales in
2019 Then in 2020, again about 20 % of gun purchasers were first time buyers
Of the first-time buyers recorded in 2020,
half were women , a fifth were Black and a fifth were Hispanic

Mr.BrooksWent through 2 background checks in the last month. Used my CCP as ID and was approved and out the door in 20 minutes for one, maybe 5 minutes for the other.
My wife has a friend from her church that decided she was out in the country, and a good distance from the closest neighbor so she bought a shotgun. She was 5000 something, that's 5000. A week later she was around 1000. Need to check on her to see if it finally got processed.

Only if they can get ammo!
If you're goin' through hell, keep on going.
Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it.
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there.

Blacks make up 12.6% of the population, 16.9% are Hispanics; so the numbers above are a little higher than the population for Hispanics, and a lot higher for Blacks.

lymanI'm amazed that Oregon waits so long to run folks,
guessing understaffed? or buy design?
numbers n VA had dropped a bit over the past few months,
I can only look back 28 days or so , and there were 18600+ transactions in that time frame,

Some people are so stupid they're beyond help.
He actually thinks that people are going to go to the lengths to legally buy a firearm with a background check so they can commit crime?

jimb888Oregon here. 2 months back bought a Classic Browning .22 pistol. I thought I'd have at least one birthday while waiting (given the recent news stories). They ran my concealed carry permit, did fingerprints, and whoosh, it was super fast. (OK, not super fast, but faster than I thought)
