The success of a solution usually depends upon your point of view

Get your stuff.

I’m seeing basic ARs for under $500.00, inventory is up, and the local gun stores have a pretty good used gun selection. Ammo is plentiful and that is keeping the prices down at what is probably the new benchmark prices. The local Academy sports has end cap displays that look like they were just stocked every time I go by there.

I’m not preaching pending doom and gloom. With the upcoming election and Vance potentially following Trump and the potential impact to the Supreme Court's makeup, I feel better about the future of the 2nd amendment then ever, but you know that somehow, some group will manage to manufacture a panic and the masses will fall into believing it and the cycle will continue.

I’ve been buying a box or two of some kind of ammo and an AR mag each time I’m in a gun store. Now and then I’ll jump on a good deal online when I can. Over time it has gotten me much closer to where I think I need to be. The box each visit has really surprised me with how much it has added up to.

What have you been doing lately to make yourself immune to the next panic?

I don’t see this as doom and gloom; more as wise folks stocking up while things are relatively cheap.

In 2016, Para recommended "stack it deep when it's cheap" and I took it to heart. It's been great advice over the years. Hard on the wallet initially, but easier over the long-term.

EDIT: Picked up a case of 40 S&W. Price was same as my Nov '23 purchase, but free shipping this time.

I've been adding a box here and box there too. Rather than just target ammo, I've been trying to pickup some quality defense ammo. Last week, I bought some 124 grain 9mm GDHP and some Federal 62 grain bonded HP for the AR. I do miss the day when Wally World sold the Remington green box JHP ammo for not much more than target ammo. I would try and buy that for practice knowing it was better than FMJ for SD if needed.

I also immediately replace what I shoot after a range trip so I'm not going backwards.

I took Para's advice some time ago and "stacked it deep" (unfortunately, the "cheap" part didn't get as much traction). Now my problem is storage, I have more ammo than places to put it. Good excuse to go shooting more often anyway!

Para posted this September 26th:

"Lastly, I wish to offer a bit of advice to all gun owners who are reading this, be they members of this forum or no: Gentlemen and Ladies, get your stuff. The sooner the better. Before the election, stock up on ammunition. Buy extra magazines. Buy that firearm you've been contemplating. If all goes wrong, there will be panic buying, which will induce false shortages, which will drive up prices and create true shortages. And if all goes our way, well, let us apply the lessons of recent years past to the behavior of leftists. We are peaceful, law-abiding Americans, but being peaceful does not mean being harmless. Prepare accordingly.

God bless all true Americans and may God bless the United States, its Constitution and its flag. When victory is ours, I invite you all for a toast here in the forum, and what a celebration we shall have."

Yep, and then after Trump got elected there were amazing prices on ammo that I also took advantage of, particularly the Federal American Eagle ammo rebate which was 25 percent off I believe. I got cases of 124 and 147 American Eagle 9MM for just over $7 a box of 50 after rebate.

Just to add and not trying to get anyone to panic buy or horde but try and plan to not to have to do much shopping the week of the election just in case things get a little chaotic. Check your stock on staples now and buy accordingly and don't forget the pet needs. Also have a bit of cash on hand just in case there are any disruptions of the electronic banking stuff. I tell my wife always keep enough on you for a tank of gas, some groceries, and/or a ride home just in case and be discreet about it. Apparently a lot of people keep pretty much no cash on hand.

Good Advice, I just ordered another case of 5.56mm and .45.
You got to buy it when they have it to sell.

Ordered a case of .22 LR today. Next paycheck will be adding to the primer stockpile. I debated about just buying a bunch of 9mm ammo, but I've already got plenty of powder and bullets, so I can get more ammo for my money with primers, plus they'll be more versatile across calibers.

Burned up maybe a couple hundred rounds last weekend. The flip side of the coin: Don't just have the ammo and the magazines, make sure all your stuff is zeroed and running right.

Some local FFL's here in AZ warn CA residents online about buying and magazines and ammo here in AZ because there's some CA LE agencies that supposedly monitor that stuff somehow. Yes, in-person sales. One of them is my FFL who is primarily an NFA dealer and super tech savvy. I believe him.
