On the monkey's suggestion, I did pick up a can of activated charcoal at lunchtime. I figure I'll start with the dry methods first, then get into the hose-it-down option.

It's not a high-dollar pack at all -- heck, it's an Ozark Trail pack from Walmart -- but I'd like to keep it in good shape as long as I can. It'll get used for a lot of other small trips if I can get the stench out.
