The pastry.

I've had them in the past a few times but nothing memorable. I usually get croissants, bagels or donuts. Occasionally apple fritters. Very rarely bear claws - I can count on my hands how many I've had in my lifetime. I can't even remember the last time I had one.

There is a local pastry shop operated by a very old (french?) lady who makes all the pastries daily; she must be well over 80 I think.

She was out of my usual almond croissant. I opted for a bear claw. Wow! I think I'll be getting that more often, perhaps instead of the almond croissant.

Nothing replaces my plain, buttery croissant but the position held by almond croissant is now up for grabs.

As an aside, she also makes a decadent choco kahlua bread (cake? shaped like a bread loaf) that is tasty and moist and dense. I'm only allowed a slice (2" thick) a month.

I understand completely. I worked for several years after retirement from the prisons as a night baker. I made a number of different pastries, but bear claws were one of my favorites. Alas, I can no longer eat them.

My favorite! You have to eat them when they are fresh though!

This was a few years ago, but the 7 Feathers Travel Center on I-5 Canyonville Oregon. OMG they had a Bear Claw that was a good size but sort of looked like a big cow pile. Hands down the best one I have ever had. The taste was awesome.

I like to pretend "rake" my friend or family w/ the bear claw before I eat it.
"Rahhr"

It might not be for everyone. But it should be.

That's all I have to say about that.
