Congratulations, sir! I'll touch base in a few days.

After 33 years wearing a badge, I knew when it was time. As many have said, you'll miss the people you liked, you won't miss the people who made the job unpleasant, and you'll really enjoy being able to have more time with your family and hobbies.

You are right, how did you/we get things done around the house while working! You will find yourself busier now than before but it's on your time now.

Enjoy..much earned

Ok um... why?
1) none of their damn business IMO
2) why prospective retirees only? I feel like that opens them up to an age discrimination lawsuit or something..

I had the same question...why are they monitoring officers within a retirement window?

That’s awesome. I’ve got a decade left. Cannot wait. I hope you live long and make more retired from them than when you were working!

As the department has become more aware of officers posting on all sorts of social media, tik tok, facebook, etc. they want to eliminate any perception of bias. As officers begin their retirement exodus process, they often start saying how they feel or start to share their opinions about supervisors, departmental rules/regulations and many other topics that might discourage others from considering a career with CPD. They consider this to be a violation of departmental rules and punish accordingly. This department has a real problem with merit promotions, accountability of the exempt ranks and so many other issues that it would take me quite some time to write about.

COPA, IAD have been long going back in time to officer's conduct history and will often use it against you and what better time to mess with someone when they are pulling the proverbial pin. This department is bleeding manpower and the upcoming DNC shit show will no doubt highlight the current regime's incompetence, so it's not surprising that they will use all means necessary to silence the departing members and force compliance to those that are still stuck in the ranks. I'm sure CPD SIG and Bulldog will agree that this department is petty like that and will make you bend the knee if they think they can.

I'm hoping to convince the wife about moving to either Kentucky or Tennessee, but my fear is that she's having a tough time leaving her family and friends. I would miss my friends and family as well, but I guess I'm just wired differently as I see the writings on the wall about Chicago and Illinois. I have time, so perhaps by taking her on vacation to those areas more, she may see the light. Either way, I'm here for now and wherever the good lord lights the path, I'll follow.

I'm in the same boat. I would have left years ago, but the wife will not move so long as our kids and grandkids are here.

FYI: There are (obviously) a lot of factors that would go into your decision, but Tenn. is a more tax friendly state for retirees than Kentucky.

I used to live in Chicago. I miss the museums and the restaurants. I still have family in Oak Park and Naperville. You make new friends and still have contact with friends in Chicago. It is only a days drive in return for a higher quality of life.

Congratulations! Enjoy your retirement! The idea to vacation at the locations you're considering moving to sounds like a good one.

My situation is similar, my GF is convinced she's receiving adequate medical care from the local hospital despite evidence to the contrary, so won't relocate. I'm job-hunting in a couple states, and hoping that if I find something she'll reconsider. At my age, that job hunt is so-far getting nowhere, so I'm stuck. Good luck convincing your wife that KY or TN are better than IL, and not that far to travel for weekend visits.

Vanderbilt in Nashville has world class care. A number of family members have received care in their hospital. Certainly on a par with whatever Illinois has to offer and probably better.
I have lived in Illinois and Tennessee and much prefer Tennessee. Much lower property taxes and less corruption. Gun laws are friendlier as well.
