A family member needed a place to park his car while he figured out what he was going to do with it. It failed inspection and he think's it has a blown head gasket. It has been here for over a year, he promises and promises to have it moved but it's still here. I told him recently to have it moved by the end of this weekend or I'm going to take action...it's still here. Here's the problem, he has a private party loan from a friend of his, and she has a lien on the title, He owes her approximately $1200 and hasn't paid her a cent in over a year. I'd like to call the scrap yard and tell them to come and get it but she has the title and she's not willing to release the lien until the loan is paid off. I don't think the boy has any intentions of paying her back. I don't know what to do...I have an abandoned car on my property and and I'm fucking tired of looking at it. I texted him this morning...no reply. My wife called him this afternoon and he said he's working today and has plans for Mother's Day. I guess I'll start with calling the sheriff's office and a random junk yard to see what my options are. I'm sure I'm not the first person who's found himself in this situation. Any suggestions? Call the police and have it towed. It can then accrue a daily fee there and rot. You’ve been more than fair and patient. No more Mr. Nice Guy What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Yes, deal with this all the time. Call the lady who has the lien. 'Hi, release the lien on this vehicle so I can dispose of it or I'm having someone tow it to your house/place of business. Thank you.' Never done it to a private party but works every time with a bank. You can also threaten to have the police take it or threaten to drag it into the street until the police take it and she'll be responsible as the vehicle owner.

Also, what are the details on the car? I'm local and might be able to point you in the best direction for disposal. Scrapping will get you maybe 150.

If someone else has the lien, call them let them know it is being towed. They will be the responsible party then.

Every State has a process to deal with this. Normally you just advertise for a couple of weeks ($40 in my area) and then its yours legally. Check locally. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

Call the lien holder and tell them that your brother abandoned it, and if it’s not moved in 3 days you are going to have the police tow it.

Depends on where you are. Here police can’t tow from private property (with no crime relation). If you have a vehicle that does not belong to you on your property the main local tow company will tow off private property for free you just sign an affidavit that it is not yours. They charge the storage fee to the owner, if not claimed in 60 days it becomes tow company property. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

Family member or not I would never let someone store their car on my property especially if it wasn't running. Once you let him leave it on your property it became your problem to deal with. Hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction, nothing worse than a junk car wasting away on your property that isn't yours.

I once had someone abandon a car on my property. The private towing companies wouldn’t come get it once they knew the car had no value. After they towed and stored it, they would loose money. Eventually I dragged it onto a public street. Once the PD calls the towing company, they must respond or risk being dropped as a police towing vendor. Car was gone in a few days. Scurvy, it's an early 2000 Mustang in poor condition. Two references in replies that the car belongs to my brother, no, we were brought up better than that...my brothers wouldn't do me that way...the family member is on my wife's side of the family. Thanks ensig, I'll be starting the process on Monday. P226 9 mm P229 .357 SIG Glock 17 AR15 Spikes - Noveske - Daniel Defense Frankenbuild

Sure, if he wants to deal with DMV, spend time and money filling out forms and waiting several weeks... Or he could make one phone call first and likely resolve the situation. But what do I know, I only do this stuff all day every day 15 minutes down the road from the OP's house...

Around here, I'd roll it out on the shoulder of the county road. It would be torched within four days. It's happened three times recently. I think two were straight up vandalism and one was an "insurance fire." They don't think it be like it is, but it do.
