I like football. I admit it.

Been looking at turning the TV on again after 6 months of nothing, and realize that prices are stupid. Almost any service that has football is $75/month. I'm not looking for my specific games, I'm not looking for special plays or anything like that, I just want to turn on the TV during football hours, and get a game!

Are there any reasonable options out there? I have tried the antenna thing, and in my area, it is almost useless, so I must rely on something coming in over the internet. Over the air is not an option here. I get two channels; three of them are in Spanish, and the other six are religious.

Any suggestions on the best way to indulge my guilty pleasure?

I have YouTube TV now and it’s got a ton of sports.

It’s $77 a month after taxes and in this day and age you aren’t going to do anything better I don’t think.

I pay $40 for my internet (500 Mbps fiber) and $77 for TV

You’d pay way more to get the same from Comcast

ESPN+ with AppleTV. $10/mo and you can cancel it when the season is over.

the over the air digital will get you quite a bit for free. Fox, cbs, nbc. But there will be many games that you will want to see that will be on cable or satellite or streaming.

Sports bar. Here we have 12 casinos with Sports book. You might have to buy a drink. Not required betting. TVs are floor to ceiling.

OTA is very nice PQ if you have a decent antenna. You can pay someone to install it (I installed mine on the old Dish sat mount). I used the NFL App at $10 a month to watch Tom Brady games the past few years. You have to wait until the game is over to see them but the great thing is you have several options to watch them commercial free. Longer version with the timeouts, etc. Or you can straight rip through games with nothing but game play.

Thanks Gustofer. I have been paying $40 (price has crept up over the years) for SlingTV thru Roku or ApppleTV mostly to have ESPN. I think I will drop Sling and pickup ESPN by itself.

Well I just checked into ESPN+ and it does not have the traditional ESPN channels so I may still be looking for a cheaper solution.

I have a few SIGs.

I guess Spectrum and ESPN are on the outs. Went to watch the Aggies and “no soup for you!” Not a total loss…I was able to watch the feed en español. Understood 2% of what was said…

How in the eff can a cable company ditch the largest sports network in the history of television!?!? Guess it’s all about the Benjamins…

Disney owns ESPN. So there’s that. $$$$. And ESPN bought up the rights to a lot of sports. So it’s actually one of the most expensive channels to have on sat/cable. If that channel is in your “package” then it’s going to be expensive. ESPN keeps raising their cost up and sat/cable companies try to fight the increase in costs because they have to raise their subscriber costs to compensate. In the end the sat/cable companies are trying to protect their customers. I used to have to through that with Dish, x channel would not be airing and Dish would have a replaying video on the channel that basically said they are fighting the increases in cost and until both parties can agree, no dice. Cable and satellite are on their way out and they know it. Dish is building a 5G network to be a cellular player. The cable companies have plenty of internet/fiber business so when cable goes bust they have other revenue streams. They still refuse to offer a la carte programming so the customers that remain are going to get higher costs.

I have Dish which this year is now blacking out Vanderbilt & UT games Broadcast by ESPN, SEC & ABC. The UT vs Virginia in Nashville was blacked out even when the game was sold out. I was able to see the game by trial subscription to FUBO. I hope that subscribing to ESPN+ thru Roku I will be able to get future games. This is what happens when a monopoly is formed.

I know you said you tried, but just in case you didn’t go big enough or tall enough to get over the Lake Wales Ridge, here a website that will show transmitter locations in relation to where you are by entering your address or zip code:

Link

At our previous home, the antenna I put in our attic would pick up Fort Myers(40 miles) and Tampa (70 miles).

We've been trying to figure the same thing out, but add the NHL to the package. Local Avs coverage is Altitude. If the Avs make it into the playoffs the second round and after are not on Altitude. ESPN, or TNT takes over from that point. If it wasn't for sports I would have dumped the big TV package years ago.

I subscribed to ESPN+ for NHL games. Full season package is $99...WELL worth it to me.

Does that include your local team, or are those games blacked out?

I live outside Houston and watch the Bruins and Predators. If either plays the Dallas Stars (considered local/in market for Houston area), those are blacked out and have to wait 48 hours after end of game to see replay. Most games broadcast on network, TNT, e.g., are availabe from a few hours to next day for replay…it’s not consistent.

Games on NESN (Bruins) or Balley’s (Preds), both out of market for me, are aired/watched live.

Thanks. I appreciate your taking the time to reply.

Those blackout delays really irk me. IMO, they didn’t make sense back in the over-the-air broadcast days. Now, if I pay for a subscription, I want to see my local team live.
