I need a new suit. However I am not a regular suit wearer. I might wear a suit once or twice a year. What is the most versatile color for everything from weddings, funerals, job interviews and church?

Charcoal gray. Close enough to black to be good for funerals and not close enough to black to be good for everything else. ________________________________________________________ It is long past time for a Convention of States. You have your answer above. That said if you think about what you wear now; and if you think you look like crap in blue, go dark gray/Charcoal. _____________________________________________ Proverbs 3:31 "Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways."

Both are great. I see arguments above for both. You can't go wrong with either. But you should own both. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Grey works everywhere. I have one suit-it’s grey And my military uniform but I only intend to wear it at my dads funeral and mine. “You may beat me, but you will never win.” sigmonkey-2020 “ in my opinion, anything that we can do to trigger a potential aneurysm in a leftist is a good thing and worth doing” nhtagmember 2025

I'll add to dark blue and dark grey, they should be pin-stripe, narrow pin. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

The one "real" suit I still own is a Brooks Brothers purchased in an after Christmas sale, still GTG and it is charcoal grey. The only other thing I own that approximates a suit is a navy blue blazer, with a pair of tan and a pair of grey dress slacks. Dark charcoal grey. Funeral and formal would call more toward that, and easily works in a job interview or whatever. The key then is shirts and ties to pull the look less dull. Charles Tyrwhitt is my go to for dress shirts. For ties, I tend to like to see and feel them, so a Macys or similar with huge selections. I'm picky with respect to ties. Material, and width affect the look as much as color and pattern.

Dark blue. Versatility is the name of the game, as you can just wear the jacket separately as a sport coat. A much darker suit like black or charcoal, while sharp in specific settings, worn separately everyone will know the jacket belongs to a suit. A grey suit tends to be hair and complexion specific, paired with the wrong person it can age them up. The other option is get yourself a black/charcoal suit as you know you'll need it for weddings/funerals. Then keep your eyes open for specials/promotions/sales and get a navy blue sport coat/blazer for more casual environments where you still need to be presentable: casual weddings, special meals, events, etc..pair it with a pair of khaki slacks or chinos and you're set for the vast majority of events.

Don't buy a suit...Unless you REALLY 'need' a suit! You can get a lot of mileage out of the following: - Black Jacket, Charcoal Jacket & Navy Jacket, and Black Pants & Charcoal Pants - Combine those with your preferred style(s) of Dress Shirts & a good selection of Ties, and you're all set for virtually any occasion! ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! If you need/want a Suit, dark charcoal, dark blue, all work very well white shirt and nice set of ties, red, blue, an assortment so you can change it up a bit, even a light blue shirt works. But, as NH said, a really nice blazer, I'd go deep navy blue, and you can pair it with khakis, or grey slacks even black slacks, white shirt and tie works in most occasions like graduation, weddings, corporate events.

I bought a black suit for my mother's funeral in 1992. I doubt that I have worn 5 times since then. I can't remember the last time. Integrity is doing the right thing, even when nobody is looking.
