Decorum Request - please don't thread shit.
  • If all you have to contribute is something akin to "I don't watch football" then move along.
  • Keep the ribbing good natured or at least goodish natured

Some of the longest standing rivalries in college football are reserved for the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Who do y'all think will win? Are you brave enough to say whether or not a team covers the spread? Apologies for any rivaly games I didn't list. Feel free to add them and make predictions.

Friday: (all times Central time zone)
  • Heroes Trophy: #17 Iowa Hawkeyes at Nebraska Cornhuskers. Already underway on CBS and in 4th quarter.
  • Texas Tech at #7 Texas. 6:30 on ABC. Longhorns are favored by 14, and will win & cover.
  • Platypus Trophy: #16 Oregon State Beavers at #6 Oregon Ducks - 7:30 on Fox. Ducks are favored by 14, and will win and cover.

Saturday: (all times Central time zone)
  • The Game: #2 The Ohio State Buckeyes at #3 University of Michigan Wolverines - 11:00 on Fox. The sign stealers are favored by 3.5, but tOSU pulls off the upset. I'm planning Thanksgiving #2 around half-time for this game so I hope it's better than the crummy NFL games yesterday.
  • The Old Oaken Bucket: Indiana University Hosers at Purdue University Boilermakers - 11:00 on BTN. My Boilermakers are favored by 5 and cover.
  • Kentucky at #10 Louisville[/b] - 11:00 on ABC . The Cardinals are favored by 7.5, and will win and cover. I like the Louisville coach as he used to be Purdue's head coach.
  • The Iron Bowl: #8 Alabama Crimson Tide at Auburn Tigers - 2:30 on CBS. The Tide are favored by 13, but I think they'll win without coverning.
  • The Territorial Cup - #15 University of Arizona at Arizona State 2:30 on ESPN. The Wildcats are favored by 10.5, and they'll cover.
  • Paul Bunyan's Axe: Wisconsin Badgers at Minnesota Golden Gophers - 2:30 on FS1. Seen both teams play Purdue and WI won and MN lost. The Badgers are favored by 3, and they'll cover.
  • Sunshine Showdown: #5 Florida State Seminoles at Florida Gators - 6:00 on ESPN. Seminoles are favored by 6.5, and they'll cover.
  • Governor's Cup: #1 Georgia Bulldogs at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets - 6:30 on ABC. Bulldogs are favored by 24, and they'll cover.
  • Palmetto Bowl: #24 Clemson Tigers at South Carolina Gamecocks - 6:30 on SECN. Tigers are favored by 7.5, but they'll win without covering.

As far as games with trophies, AZ vs AZ St started the trophy in their first match-up in 1899 making it the oldest trophy in college football. Not the longest rivalry playing today but others were late to the game on trophy, lost trophies, or political correctness made them change trophy. Some of the other older rivalries:
  • MN - WI first played 1890 but trophy was 1948. Original trophy started in 1930 but disappeared in 1943.
  • Purdue - IU first played 1891 but trophy was 1925
  • Iron Bowl first played 1893 but 1948 trophy
  • GA - GA Tech first played 1893 but 1994 trophy
  • OR - OR St first played 1894 but 1959 trophy. Lost for 40 years and reinstated 2007.
  • Clemson - SC first played 1896 but trophy didn't start until 1980
  • The Game first played 1897 but no trophy

    Example of good natured ribbing:

Ryan Day and Harbaugh ought to have a boxing match to settle the score. If it is possible for both teams to lose I would be happy.

Excited for The Game. Not preoccupied with the sign stealing bullshit. It’s not fair to those kids on the field.

I don’t expect McCarthy to rip off big plays like last year. The real question is whether McCord can generate enough offense to keep up with the inevitable scores by UM’s running game.

C.J. Stroud was an amazing QB, but not an emotionally tough one, and didn’t understand the rivalry. I don’t think McCord has that problem. I think the defense is every bit the equal of Michigan’s, and the offense is better. The Bucks pull this off, but it will be close, and Bucks fans will need nitroglycerin by the end of the game.

Auburn fans are used to losing the Iron Bowl. We live for those years when we are granted a miracle on the field. "Miracle at Jordan Hare" "Kick Six".

These games keep us going thru the dark years.

Cal beat Stanfurd for the Axe last weekend. Weird that next year it will be an ACC conference game.

    You forgot one:

Saturday: (all times Central time zone)
  • The Apple Cup: Unranked Washington State Cougars at #4 Washington Huskies - 3:00 on Fox. The Huskies are favored by 15.5 and will win and (probably, although I hate to predict rivalry games) cover.

For UGA - GT, the trophy is referred to as the Governor’s Cup. The game is referred to as Clean Old Fashioned Hate.

I’ll be there, though odds are particularly low.

Beat the Scum Devils! UofA is at 8-3, appears likely to beat ASU and finish the season at 9-3. Meaning they are likely to lose head coach, Jedd Fisch to TAMU.

Two great defenses faced two inept offenses in Lincoln yesterday morning. Nebraska found a way to lose by a last second FG to the state with bad corn. A 7th consecutive season for the Huskers without a bowl appearance.

Three weeks ago I would have bet good money that Michigan would beat Ohio State. But Ohio State has continued to improve and Michigan not so much. Now my money would be on Ohio State. That is if I were a betting man. Wink

No. YOU are used to losing.

    The rest of us aren’t.

Auburn’s all-time record in the Iron Bowl against Alabama is 37-47-1.

We went six straight during the 2002-2007 seasons.

Last win was 2019 (48-45). That’s three games. And we had that fraud from Boise as a coach for two of those losses and we still should have / could have taken one of them if Tank just takes a knee to run the clock out.

When exactly did YOU get “used to losing”?

Tip of the cap to UofM for 3rd straight win. Despite the result, it was an exciting game.

Speaking of 3 straight, my Boilermakers won the Old Oaken Bucket again. That brings the series to 77-42-6 for Purdue.

The Michigan / Ohio State game today was pretty exciting.

But in my neighborhood this weekend's event is the Commonwealth Cup -- the rivalry between Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia.

The vthoky house is a happy house tonight.

I'm looking forward to this NC State / UNC rivalry game tonight.
