When I was in high school I had a job pumping gas at a Sunoco station in Chicago. Just kept all the cash in my pocket. The bikers all got 260 and pumped it themselves.

Make sure they teach the Oregonians this:

No, I pay at the pump. If I'm waiting in line behind a Lotto Pro, it's because I'm buying other shit and I can just wait my turn, same as anyone else.

While you can't pump your own gas in NJ, you can pump your own diesel. When someone on a motorcycle gases up typically you will see the attendant hand the biker the nozzle. That has never been a problem.

Is that something new?

I worked in NJ 1990 - 1992, had a Mercedes 240D (Diesel), they told me I was not permitted to pump my own. This, at more than one station, mostly in the Saddle Brook area.

Funny thing though, I never had any problem fueling the V-Tail myself. The line guy (or gal) would just drive up in the fuel truck. I would hold my hand out for the hose, they would just hand it to me with no problem.

Way back in 1962 - 1966, I worked at Bell Labs, Holmdel NJ. I don't remember an attendant fueling my car. Pretty sure I did it myself all the time, but that was more than 50 years ago, so I might be wrong.

I will find the regulation, I just read it about a month ago. Here is an online quote that I came across, but I will find you the regulation.

NJ views gasoline and diesel differently. Diesel isn't under the same rule stating that only gas attendants can pump it. Diesel can be pumped by the driver or the attendant. So it is up to the gas station to decide if they pump it or not. Thats basically why, gotta love our wacky rules..

Yes, it's relatively new in NJ. By that I mean maybe 2 or 3 years? Could be longer than that (or shorter), but yes, somewhat new.

Or at least, I've only first seen self serve diesel pumps at wawa within the last year or two.

I bought a new diesel in 2002 and could pump my own back then, I think it has always been allowed.

No one said you can't pay for the gas yourself, they said you can't pump it. Wink

Same for Oregon, for as long as I can recall.

I stand corrected. Like I said, I only just started noticing the pumps at the wawas. Anyway, I'm not in jersey all that much nowadays.

It seems like all of the Wa-wa's are adding diesel tanks. A year ago none of the 3 stations had them, now they all do.

She loves it. She's now a k-9 officer as well after being selected last year for the program.

That's nice. I work as a substitute for the Ocean County Vocational Schools. At one of the schools, Academy of Law and Public Safety (ALPS) in Waretown, there is the K-9 training field alongside the Fire Academy there. I only noticed it last week for the first time
