I was stationed there as a company commander before, during, and after. My crowded hours...

My BIL jumped in with the 1st Ranger Bn in "Operation Just Cause". One of the airfields. Luckily he was uninjured during the operation.

I went to Panama in April 1991 as my ARNG unit rotated into "Operation Fuertos Caminos", IMHO a "win the hearts and minds" campaign, to show the local Panamanians that we (the USA) weren't greedy colonialists or evil imperialists. We were a Combat Engineer unit, and built several bridges in the Nombre de Dios area in northeastern Panama. 90% of the Panamanians that I dealt with personally were glad to see us.

Lost a childhood friend during that one: Marine Corporal Garreth Isaak.

I PCS'd to FT. Ord right when the 4/17 Light Infantry got back from Panama, they lost a few there
