Now I understand the feeling SigForum members like “Q” (12131) and others get when giving away a gun. What an AMAZING feeling. I gave away two guns over the past several weeks and in both situations the person receiving did not ask for nor were they aware of my plan. I donated a NIB Smith and Wesson M&P-15 Sport 2 AR-15 and 10 new 30rd Gen3 P-Mags to the local SWAT team. The small town where we recently moved has a small SWAT Team that is shared by the city and the county and from what I understand their budget is small. I contacted to Police Chief who is an amazing man who served two tours before becoming the local Chief. Called and requested a 15 minute meeting to introduce myself. What an amazing, kind, professional, friendly gentleman. Then I told him the reason for my meeting request. City Council approved two weeks later at their next planned meeting and I carried the rifle and mags along with my credentials and the transfer was completed. He wanted to call the local newspaper and I said let’s leave this one out of the local paper. Since then I have met the Asst. Chief and two SWAT Team members who all were so appreciative. I also gave away a like new 1955 Remington model 511 Scoremaster 22 S/L/LR Bolt Action rifle that belonged to my Uncle, that he purchased new sometime around 1955-1956. He gave me the rifle about 50 years ago and my dad kept it in his glass door gun cabinet for many many years. There is a local gun club whose owner has trained 4H and local youth shooters for over 30 years with several even competing in the Junior Olympics. I learned that he many times used his own money to purchase rifles and ammo to teach these youth. Decided it would be a great new home for my Uncle’s 511 Scoremaster rifle. To say he was excited when I handed him the gun case and told him the rifle inside needed more range time, is an understatement. Needless to say, now I better understand the feeling “Q” and other SigForm members get when they give away a gun. Pretty freaking awesome.

Good on you. The satisfaction can be much greater than what we get from the dollars of a sale. ► 6.0/94.0 “I can’t give you brains, but I can give you a diploma.” — The Wizard of Oz

Some years ago I made the decision to sell off all of my old school Smith & Wesson semiautomatic pistols. I sold a 52-1 and a 1076 over on another Forum. I still had a 1006 and a 5906 and decided to give them to my younger brother. He's a Civil Engineer, and he does quite well for himself. But he is a bit cheap. So I arranged for the 1006 to go to a 3rd Generation S & W Gunsmith/FFL in Louisiana for several small repairs, and when done, ship it to an FFL in my Brother's home town. My FFL shipped the 5906 to the FFL in my Brother's home town. I had been in email contact with the FFL in my Brother's home town and asked him to keep the 5906 until the 1006 arrived from the Louisiana Gunsmith. When the home town FFL had possession of both pistols, he called my Brother and told him he had a package and he needed to come to the shop and do paperwork. Needless to say, my Brother was surprised! NRA Benefactor Life Member NRA Instructor USPSA Chief Range Officer

I've given away 5 or so to family members in the last 6 years or so. Guns I probably wasn't ever going to use that they would put to use. Mostly hunting guns and one Glock 23 that I never enjoyed shooting. Good feeling to know those guns are getting a new lease on life.
