The new Radtel RT-950 Pro

It really does it all. Features like GPS/APRS not available outside of the big name Japanese radios (Yaesu/Icom/Kenwood) and even those don’t have everything this does in one radio. Also has NOAA channels and will even TX/RX on 6m band (50mhz).

Also has a spectrum analyzer and cross band repeater functions.

$96 on Amazon. Reviews look good, I grabbed one for $77 last week when it was a lightning deal.

After playing with it a few days my initial report is this:

~Solid construction, heavy duty case material and a bit larger than my beloved TIDRadio TD-H8. Absolutely no comparison to the cheap Baofeng models.

~NICE Bright and clear color LCD screen broken into three sections for tri-watch capabilities or to show GPS position and APRS info.

~Good audio

~Easy to program manually or use a phone app via BT.

~5 Banks of 64 channel memories to organize programming.

~2600mAh USB-C Charging battery and can use radio while plugged in to charge.

~Good size keypad, with 10 or so user programmable hot keys for single button access to favorite features.

At the regular price of $96 it is a hell of a deal on what looks to be a solid radio. At $76 it’s a downright steal. I checked a few reviews before ordering and it is getting good press.

To take advantage of all the features, you’ll need to invest in a few additional antenna.

Ok, thanks for the heads up. I have put it in my cart and will watch for a 'post Christmas' sale or something to see if I can snag it at 77 as well.

Question, re: SW, MW, LW. My Drake SPR-4 has a 5MHz 1st IF stage for good image rejection. And a 50KHz 2nd IF stage for good selectively. Does this radio have similar?

Also, the Drake has a sharp notch filter that can be positioned anywhere in the audio band to take out squeal caused by a slightly off-frequency interfering signal. A feature enabled by that 50KHz 2nd IF stage.

Serious about crackers.

Heads-up if anyone is looking at the model on Amazon: The one I received today can't be programmed in the 6m band (50-54MHz).

In fairness, it looks like the Amazon product description has been changed and makes no mention of 50-54mhz. The manufacturer's page is pretty clear that 6m -is- reachable, so possibly a different version is being sold direct.

So-- visualize "sad trombone music" here-- off to their website for me also.

Make sure you have an appropriate antenna as the included one does not work at those frequencies. Try to Tx without proper antenna could damage radio.

No, the Drake is going to blow the Radtel out of the water on receive performance. They're totally different tools for different jobs though. You're likely going to need to move into a nicer HF base radio if you want to beat the receive performance of that Drake.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."
