T-Mobile screens a lot of the crap. Most that some how get through are marked as possible scam. I guess they are on the edge of the screening matrix. Possible scams I just delete before they even get to VM. Some that get though and show and unknown location or "USA" I also delete. Every now and again one get's to the VM, and of course into the shit-can they go.

Never. If it’s legit, they can (should) leave a message.

I can count on one finger the number of legit calls I’ve missed by letting unknown callers g to vmail.

I can't understand why they hang up when I tell them that I really would like an extended warranty for my 1974 Pinto.

Half the time even if I know who is calling I tend not to answer. For some reason I only get calls when I'm driving, in a store, at a restaurant, etc. Never when I'm just home sittin' on the couch.

I normally (98 times out of 100) don’t answer an unknown number.

Now, thanks to two of you, I’ve learned about two more settings on my Verizon iPhone that’ll help control it. I probably get 2 or 3 spam calls per day, and manually go back into recent calls and block the numbers. It’s like playing whack-a-mole...

Heck. The least they could do is give you a quote!

This ^^^^^

And if I find, in subsequent review, that such a number did not leave voicemail: I block it.

thanks for the responses -- basically i just wanted to take an informal poll to ensure i wasn't being 'odd' not answering unknown callers

too many spam calls these days -- i also add everyone i know / usual numbers to my contacts so i see them come up by name

Let it go to voice mail. If no message then the number gets blocked. If a BS message(spam) the number gets blocked. Told all my friends and family if they get a new number and don't have ID or leave a message when they call me then that number will get blocked also.

I will only answer an unknown call if it's from one of the Philly-area area codes. My # is from another state, so all the calls I get that are wrong numbers or from spammers come from the old city's area code.

I've never had an issue in the last 8 years of living here with answering local area codes. At worst, it's a robo call from CVS telling me to renew a Rx, but more often than not it's the dentist, doctor or someone I work with but who isn't in my contacts.

Text messages are another story. I usually get a fair amount of spam texts that I just delete.

Normally do not answer unknown numbers on cell phone or home phone. No voice mail/messages by choice. Have been known to answer with something like " Homicide , Sgt. Major -How may I help you?? Normally phone call gets dropped with no reply.

Yup, I was sick of stopping what I was doing (fatherless gits always seemed to call when I was in the middle of a project requiring two hands) and when I saw that feature in the update announcement I thought, “Hurray, apple finally added a useful feature instead of just randomly screwing with the user interface. I LOVE “silence known callers”!

People I know are aware that I do not answer "unknown" calls, so they leave a message.

If I get a call from any unknown number and no message is left, it goes into the block list.

My phone is for my convenience, and I owe no one "an answer".

I don't.

Once in a while when I'm in the mood to screw with someone I'll pick up the call though. Like the day someone called for my wife on the landline. I asked them if they would call back later as she was not eligible for parole for another five years.

Wife was not amused, she was sitting on the couch at that time texting her sister.
