Plants require lighting, and you need to know how each plant gets nutrients as some get it from the water column, and others from the substrate. Use fertilizers according to the way the plant feeds.

I use Flourish Excel in my tank as I have anubias nana in my tank attached to a manzanita stump. I have also used fertilizer sticks in the substrate by sword plants.

Fluval makes a nice LED light for planted aquariums.

Some people use Co2 and some don't it depends on your plants and what you want to do with the tank.

Live plants will help reduce nitrates and thus help keep algae down.

right now I have Cardinal, Rummy Nose, and Platinum Hatchets (all Tetras) in my tank, but will be adding some discus or maybe some Apistograms or German Rams to the tank.

I have had angels, discus, and other fish.

Hope this helps.
