I just got a 2021 VW GTI and need a way to secure a small handgun. The glove box doesn't lock and wouldn't be an option if it did. No one makes a console safe. I've read multiple threads in VW forums warning about putting any box under the front seats because of the airbag wiring, and there is literally nothing in the car to hard mount a box to with the exception of the rear seat backs which are 16-18 gauge sheet metal.

It looks like something like the V-Line Desk Mate might work because there is no wiring of any kind inside the rear seat backs, and I can drill through the sheet metal and use toggle bolts to attach the mounting pannel. I'm trying to avoid the security cable type boxes because that's easily defeated by even the smallest bolt\wire cutters.

Has anyone gone this route, and how did it work out? Thanks for any information.

Is there an area under the cargo floor in the trunk?
I had a SnapSafe there in my Mercedes & Mini. Ran the cable through either a cargo tie down or a hole/pass through in the trunk floor.

I’ve had vline installed in my cars. One was mounted to the rear deck of the back seat but inside the trunk. So it was hanging down from the rear deck inside the trunk. The rear deck being the shelf between the rear seat and the rear window. I’ve mounted another to the floor in the rear of the truck. Both are the drawer models. I used the mounting plates to allow for easy temporary removal if necessary. I trust vline much more than anything I could fit into the console.

I couldn't put a safe under the seat because bmw puts speakers under the seat and the safe would vibrate. I got a boostedsafe that connects to the child seat LATCH points.

in my current car, especially with easy entry enabled, no one can fit behind me so it's perfect. I also have tinted windows so it's harder to see.

I saw the Boosted Safe and have the same lack of space 'issue'. I'm 6'3" and no one over the age of six can fit behind me in the GTI. I don't like electronic locks so I was thinking about the basic model. Which model did you get and how do you like yours? Does it interfere with the rear seat if you want to fold it down?

Chowser: how do you like the boosted safe? Do you feel it's secure? The lock (especially the keylock and fingerprint) is hard to pick or easy for pro's? Design and steel sufficiently pry bar proof?

I'm interested in the boosted safe if you think they are secure (needs 10+ minutes to break-in) and reliable (no issues getting into the safe - can get in each time, every time for 10+ years; I want to leave the key at home, not have to carry it or leave it in the car).

I have a safe in the truck but it would be convenient to have something that's pretty secure and reliable for quick things. I'd use the safe in the trunk for leaving stuff while kayaking. Use the boosted for leaving stuff while going to certain places like the post office.

If you vouch for them, good enough for me. Do you order directly from them or another retailer? Do they ever go on sale ($400 is pricey)?
