I grew up just across the border in Indiana and can remember the Kwik-E-Mart that sold candy to kids in the neighborhood. They had an extensive selection of automatic weapons, didn't do NICS checks, and were cash only. But I could be remembering that wrong...

Right now the two leading candidates for The Mutants are replacement Alderman Ray Lopez and Paul Vallas. I don't trust Lopez but he's not a hard core communist like the Mutant is or any of her supporters are. Vallas is a strong supporter of the Police and has a son working as a copper in some suburb. Neither one would be my first choice but both are way better than the Mutant.

Oh, they connect the dots, but they damn sure don't like the picture.
That's when they play the victim, the "It ain't my fault", and the "we need more money to solve the problem!"

They just can't/ won't SAY what the problem is, because it turns someONE into the "boogie man". And it's much easier to turn someTHING into the "boogie man"

I doubt any white candidate can win, a black Hispanic maybe. I won't even suggest a Republican.

Preckwinckle is probably chomping at the bit to run again, and the list gets far worse after her name.

They can connect the dots but those dots lead directly back to them on every issue killing Chicago today. And if they even recognized the dots and where they lead, they'd have to own the problems and then try and do something to actually address them. That isn't ever going to happen.

Armored, what's this "Republican" you speak of?
I know they exist in the wild. Hell, I've even seen a few in person, I actually touched a few! They are pretty damn cool too!!!!

But I ain't never seen one here!
Wink

Kunta Kinte has a better chance at a Merle Haggard concert than a Republican does in the Limits of Chicago or Cook Co. The Democratic Machine here has driven them all away. Oh, there's Republican VOTERS, but none of them are dumb enough to run for office here.

You're right, I forgot about him. Rarely, but there's usually one in office somewhere. And again, they "say" they're Republican...
That's what I get for living on the South Side.
Hell, may as well be on the dark side of the moon.

Napolitano is a former Chicago Police Officer turned Chicago Fireman. His father was CPD as is his brother. He's a solid guy and a solid Republican. I know it will probably never happen but I'd love to see him on the 5th floor someday.

He has my full support. Sometimes I actually believe he is acting and voting like a Republican.
Now, If he can just get the new runways that were just built at O'hare and have ruined my neighborhood shut down I would be in favor of building a statue of him.
Yes, I would be thrilled to see him in the Mayors office.

Went to the Uniform Shop today, had to get a few things that I didn't get in Sgt's class.
Need to look Professional in my Dress Uniform for what I'm assuming is going to be next week.

Damn I hate the sound of Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.

RIP Officer E. French.

Officer Yanez had surgery today, the Dr's are optimistic. The bullet is still lodged in his brain, and I guess they prepped him for a prosthetic eye. He's responsive, and I guess they are hopefully going to take the tube out tomorrow.

I was at Police Headquarters last week. Walking in the entrance, I looked at the "Star Case", it's the case that contained all of the Fallen Officers badges. I know a lot of those names... Some are neighbors, parents and relatives of friends, some are friends. A lot since I came on in '95.

It’s tough to walk past that case. I have five personal friends who were murdered on the job and their stars are in there. These Police funerals are hard to handle. My first one started in 1981 and I’ve been to far too many since then. It doesn’t get any easier no matter how many you go through. I didn’t know French but I know that her funeral is going to be just as hard to deal with as that first one many years ago. I agree with those pipes. When they start playing it’s real tough to remain resolute. Wonder if Carter will show.

I hope not. IMO, he should resign. He can always save face and say, like Cuomo, that he'd be a "distraction".

Yesterday, Mayor Groot tried to sell the lie that the honor guard was prohibited by the ME's office due to Covid. It took the ME's office about an hour to issue a statement calling bullshit on her.

Update for those of us not in the Chicago area:

1. "Groot" Lightfoot was told numerous times NOT to go to the hospital where the wounded officer was and this was the family's wishes she not be there. She went anyway and get a different sort of tongue lashing than she usually gets. As she walked out, all the officers there turned their backs to her. Of course her little ego exploded.

Chicago Sun Times article

Then when they were trying to form up the Honor Guard for the slain officer's escort from the hospital to the Medical Examiner's Office(waiting for the pipes and drums traditional send off), Deputy Commander Carter got really stupid and was heard (over a radio I believe or recorded) “We don’t have 20 minutes for this shit.”.........So Groot immediately defended the Deputy Commander in a statement saying the that due to Covid risks and exposure, the Honor Guard isn't allowed on the Medical Examiner's property. Of course the ME immediately issued a statement basically saying, "Uh no that bitch is wrong. We will always allow First Responders gathering for a fallen brother or sister." So now she and Carter are backtracking big time.

Good summary jsbcody.

One interesting add: It was stupid of Mayor Groot to try to throw the ME's office under the bus to protect Carter.

One, because it was so easily refuted. But, two, because the ME's office is part of Cook County, not the City of Chicago. Cook County is run by Toni Preckwinkle, Groot's biggest political rival. So, the Mayor handed a cream pit to Preckwinkle, who gladly smashed it in Groot's face.

CoolRich59, I figured it was something like that....it was almost as if they had the statement ready for a response to Groot.

Meanwhile Groot is mad at the media for asking her questions. Now Downtown Brown is upset that the POS who bought and gave the gun to the murdering scumbag was given typical bail/bond for the straw purchase charge in the Federal system. It looks like Downtown Brown will be gone by the end of the Labor Day Weekend, if not sooner.

What is getting lost in the political bullshit crossfire is one police officer was killed and another is in critical condition, due to thugs being on probation instead of prison. I would like to say a lot more but this is not the appropriate thread and time. Prayers and condolences again for the wounded officer and both officers' families.
