I had a NOCO but it didn't last long. I was able to return it for a full refund. What do you recommend? For pickup truck, small car, John Deere tractor.

If I spend more, do I get greater power and reliabilty? Or is more money just paying for bells and whistles? I can certainly see the value of something with a bright floodlight, but....?

By some chance did your NOCO come from Amazon? There are many reports of counterfeit units being sold from there. I ordered directly from NOCO and have had no issues. Generally NOCO start packs have been reliable.

My FIL got [I think] a Duracell branded one from Costco.
I got mine, AVAPOW was the brand, from a work raffle. Have used it a couple times & no complaints.
Sits on the safe & holds a charge well. Haven't needed to charge it when I've needed it.

We use NOCO at work for at least two years now. We have not had any issues with them and we use them regularly in starting our chassis. Maybe you received a defective unit. I wouldn't throw in the towel on the brand just yet.

A friend of mine (actually a member here) tried to start my truck with his fully charged unit, I don't remember what brand. Didn't work.

I used my lower rated (amp-hours) NOCO and it fired right up.

GB40

I initially had a GB 40 but it struggled to start my Corvette, high compression 6.2 liter engine. I upgraded to a GBX75 and it has no problem spinning the Vette engine over. Nothing wrong with the GB 40 but it was too near the limits of capability. I gave the GB40 to my daughter and it works fine for all of their vehicles which have more sensible engines. It even started the SIL's Dodge Hemi pickup truck.

Watch the NOCO website as I ended up purchasing both of the ones I bought for less than on Amazon.

I have a GB40 as well. It did fine with my 6.0 GTO, but struggled with my 4.0 Jeep. It's done great with the few other random vehicles I've started with it.

The two I have are both made of Chinesium LoL and neither are currently available on Amazon.

But they both have served me well for years and I would recommend some sort of jumper battery in all vehicles.

The two I have hold power very well in trunk storage and have never failed to jump a vehicle. The advantage of having one is that there is no risk to the electrical system of a potential jumping vehicle. And no wait time for a jump if stranded with a dead battery.

The two I have were advertised as ... Car Battery Starter 2500A Peak 22800mAh Jump Starter for Cars, Trucks and SUV (Up to 8L Gas/8L Diesel Engine) ... and I saw a YouTube video of them jump starting a tractor where others failed.

So my advice is to look at reviews on Amazon for jumper batteries you may be interested in. There are many of these type batteries listed on Amazon and worth the time and effort to drill down through the product range to find one that fits your needs and is highly recommend. I would also see if there are any YouTube video reviews of the product you are interested in.

Were the counterfeits purchased on Amazon from the NOCO store ? I just bought a charger from there

Another vote for the NOCO GBX75. It works well and I've used it on all kinds of equipment.. even an old Trackmobile that requires quite a jump.

Counterfeit?? ... The NOCO is made in China too. Maybe you didn't know that. AND the ones I have MAY have even been made in the same Chinese factory, just branded differently ... and sold at a lower price point.

Furthermore, at the time of my jumper starter search and purchase several years ago, the NOCO was out performed by the Chinese brands that I have. I watched a comparison review or two on YouTube. The NOCOs either struggled in some cases or failed entirely, where the brands I chose easily completed the jump start task. And Bonus, was less expensive than the NOCO.

As I noted, the brands I have are no longer available on Amazon but there are some with the same and even better specifications currently available.

NOCO may have improved since I purchased battery jump starters years ago but the ones I have are still going strong. At the time and based on my research, no way would I have chosen a NOCO. YMMV

NOCO GB40 here, no issues jumping the 350 sbc in the 57.

As was hinted at above you need to get a battery pack that is properly sized for the engine you want to charge.

I have one for my Jeep and a larger one for my 6.7L diesel.

The #1 would be too weak for my purposes and the NCOCO GBX75 is #57. So maybe the rankings are a bit irreverent, but might be a place to start. The NOCO GBX75 on Amazon goes for $249.95 and the brand I bought 4yrs ago but is currently unavailable is spec'd the same as the NOCO and I paid $60.47

Just a small PSA. These small battery powered jumpers typically contain lithium ion cells--typically 18650 or 21700 cells.

Lithium-ion cells do not like being stored fully charged. The problem is so well known that cell phone and car software all have programming to reduce the amount of time the battery cells stay fully charged--for example, Tesla recommends cutting off charging at 80% full, letting the driver opt to charge to 100% capacity only on those days where the driver expects to need the added range.

So, with respect to these lithium ion jump packs. If you plan on keeping one "at the ready", you'll need to upsize a little to allow yourself to store the jumper at 70-80% capacity and still give yourself enough overhead to jump the car however many times you think you'll need.

NOCO are really solid. Is it possible you got a fake or return?
