So we had our house in the market. Listed it back in September. Had zero bites in the house. Pretty much no one came to look and those that did threw out ridiculous lowball offers. We told our agent to take the house off the market on Election Day. Starting that Wednesday the people couldn’t see it fast enough. We ended up with some lowball offers and we said that’s fine, remove the listing and we will keep it. Fast forward ten days. A guy and his wife that lowballed us knocked in the door and offered full price. We politely declined as the holidays were approaching. He came back after Thanksgiving and offered full price again. We declined. He came back in January, said that he wants the house, he would give full price, no contingencies, cash offer and close in 26 days. We told him to have his agent write it up. So we closed in 26 days. Our daughter is moving back to Washington to go to nursing school. So we moved back into our old house which is a lot smaller, newer, has better everything as far as I’m concerned and a much smaller yard. All around it’s a huge win for me. Also, there are no goddamned mesquite trees to clean up the constant droppings from, so I am over the moon happy. We had a Liberty Revere 64 and it was a decent safe. It wasn’t coming with us as it was big and heavy and had to cross a lot of hollow sounding tile. If we shattered tiles it would have been a pain to negotiate that into the sale, and the repair costs would instantly supersede the cost of the safe. So it stayed and was the new owner’s issue to remove, and they did, and tiles did break. Made me quite thankful I had the sense to walk away. I swore I would never buy another safe with an electronic lock. I wanted a combination lock. Well, Tractor Supply had a safe that was just the right size, a color my wife liked and it had a damned electronic lock. I spoke with the manager of TSC, and explained that I had bought the last big Liberty from them, along with a Hobart welder, and other stuff. He knocked $200 off the safe. I couldn’t complain. I added a light kit and it’s nicely lit up inside now. When I added the interior lights, I also cleaned up the other wiring for the lamp and my wife’s phone charger. So we are back in our old home which I very much prefer, with a decent safe. All in all it’s a big win. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I bet a locksmith could swap in a mechanical lock. IIRC, a1abdj has talked about doing that before.

The wife got me string lighting for my safe for Christmas. I’ll never be without those LED lights again. They are a game changer. Congrats on your new safe and the happy soul.

I've got what appears to be the same lock and I was in a situation similar to yours a few years back. It made sense for me to move mine so I did. I hired a professional safe mover and all went well. I asked about replacing digital lock with analog and it was no big deal. I don't remember price but I thought it was more than reasonable. Still haven't done it, me being me I'll probably let it become an emergency. My safe is a lg Browning that I bought new in 1999, probably average opening once a week. ![]() ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

Wait till your hands start to shake a bit, the keypad will instantly become a blessing. Bob I am no expert, but think I am sometimes.

That's something I never thought of. I take medication for tremors. I assume its only going to get worse with age. My wife mentioned in passing she didn't declare any guns to the home insurance people. So, that puts me in the market for something with a fire rating. There is a fire station two minutes away from my house so I don't think I need to go overboard. I don't have a large collection, and it isn't going to grow. The safe pictured looks to be about the size I would need. What model is it? _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

It's all part of the adventure... |
Beancooker - that is one sharp looking safe; I really like the Iwo Jima graphic! I have a Liberty WX-25 that I inherited from my Dad in 2008. It’s been moved 4 times between 2008 and 2020. First, around the block to our house in 2008. Then in 2014, from that house to a rental house for about 4 months, then to the next home we purchased (that we thought would be our last), and then in 2020 to our current home (which we now expect be our last; we’ll see…). I paid a locksmith/safe company each time to have it moved, and thankfully no tiles were broken nor doorframes scarred, and no damage to the safe. I think it’s money well-spent to have a pro move a big gun safe. But it isn’t cheap. I emptied the safe and moved the contents myself each time, of course.
