Looked for some in Kroger this afternoon and none to be found. I looked at all the Yuengling labels on the cooler shelving and didn't even see where they stock Oktoberfest. Might have to make a run over to Specs Liquor and see if they have it in stock... "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. I know this has been discussed here before but I still find it really interesting that what is sold here in the US as “German Oktoberfest” beer is a type (Märzen) that hasn’t been a thing in Germany for 80-100 years. The Oktoberfest beer served there now is Festbier which is a much lighter, lower alcohol type lager than the darker heavier Märzen. I think I’ve only seen like one or two American craft brewers doing Oktoberfest beer in the style of Festbier

Founder's Octoberfest is showing up in local Michigan stores. It is excellent. _________________________ An unarmed man can only flee from evil and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it. - Col Jeff Cooper NRA Life Member Long Live the Super Thirty-Eight

No, the Wiesn/Festbier style didn't displace the Märzen style at Oktoberfest until the early 1990s, a mere ~30 years ago...

I don't drink much beer these days but I do appreciate a good brew. For a domestic Octoberfest you can't go wrong with Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest. Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves. -D.H. Lawrence

You sure about that? I was at Oktoberfest Munich 1993 and 1995 and don’t ever recall seeing widespread serving of Märzen there. It was all that pale straw colored light-ish lager.

Fighting the good fight |
Yep, I'm sure. 1993 and 1995 would be during/after that "early 1990s" timeframe when the lighter Wiesn/Festbier had totally replaced the darker Märzen as the primary Oktoberfest offering. 1993/1995 wasn't 80-100 years ago, even it might feel that way sometimes. The lighter style of Wiesn/Festbier wasn't even a thing until Paulaner originated it in the mid-1970s, so the beer style itself isn't even 80-100 years old anyway... The lighter Festbier was served alongside the darker Märzen through the rest of the 1970s and 1980s, growing in popularity until fully supplanting Märzen at Oktoberfest by the early 1990s.

My hypocrisy goes only so far |
Sadly after April 4th 2020 Covid killed my taste & smell. Three years later it’s not returned . Fall 2020 my wife brought home a 6pk of my favorite brew & it now tasted unidentifiable & horrible. So no more mega orders of Sam Adams

That is the saddest thing I’ve heard in a long time. Truly. I always looked forward to your pics of Oktoberfest beer stacked high and wide. It was like noticing the first maple leaves changing color. ___________________ Company, villainous company hath been the spoil of me.

Went to a grocery store today; only one brand of Oktoberfest brew in stock. Sam Adams, at $21 for a 12 pack. Feeling remorse, I bought a tall can of Heineken and came home.

I've been going to Germany just about every year since I was 16 in 1988 and I don't recall ever seeing Märzen beer there. I drink it in Austria all the time, but never in Germany. If you have a Gordon Biersch in your area, they have the closest thing to the real Austrian Märzen beer.

Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle |
I just had a yuengling oktoberfest for the first time. Sam Adams was the first oktoberfest I ever had so I always give the new brew a go as well. It is my favorite time of year. The last several years, I discovered Enegren Brewery and have really enjoyed their line-up and specials. Their Hells is what I remember when I was in Bavaria and their Oktoberfest specials are quite tasty with the appropriate sausage w/kraut.

Got a 12 of Sam Adams on Friday, first sighting in the area. I like it a little cooler out for these, but still good.

Meijers has it for ~$20/12 and 40% off the second 12 pack. I hope it's as good as you say! Now it sounds like I should get some Sam Adams as well! I don't drink all that much any more so I will have to host a party or celebrate Oktoberfest well into the next year! ... stirred anti-clockwise.

No, not like Bill Clinton |
Lucked up on these the other day, a guy put them on FB marketplace at prices from $4 to $15 at an antique/consignment shop down the road from me. I do own a few from my time there already I went specifically for the Schweinfurt Brauhaus one, but the guy offered me all I wanted for $2 a piece I picked up some Sam Adams but I will see if I can find some Spaten today and enjoy
