Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do. |
I have Blue Cross (BC) as my Medicare supplemental insurance. They sent a lot of mail that I consider junk mail. Got something yesterday (1/31) that I almost threw away without reading. Upon opening it I was surprised to see BC was canceling my insurance because Medicare had notified them of my death. Sure surprised me to find out I had died!. Blue Cross referred me to Medicare who told me Social Security (SS)had informed them that I was no longer eligible for Medicare. SS said they had nothing in their records regarding this but when they looked at Medicare records they had a date of death as 1/11/2022. Now 1/11/22 is the date I got released from the hospital after getting a stent after my heart attack. Referred me back to Medicare. I am guessing the hospital checked the wrong box which caused the "death notification" to Medicare. Lady at Medicare had no idea who notified them As of today I have no Medicare or insurance coverage or any idea how long it is gonna take to fix this mess. Signed Dead man I am no longer dead, Medicare has corrected the error. Of course there isn't any explanation of what caused this mess or how it was corrected. Blue Cross also has it corrected. This message has been edited. Last edited by: gjgalligan, Integrity is doing the right thing, even when nobody is looking.

Muddflap beat me to the reference… "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

We are gathered here today to remember the life and contributions of our dear friend, gjgalligan. May he rest in … gjgalligan, quit posting in this thread, I’m trying to eulogize you. So rude. Anyway, may he Rest In Peace. In lieu of flowers, donations to Ginger and/or Tiffini at The Foxx Hole would be appreciated. This message has been edited. Last edited by: mark123,

You need to contact Social Security. They will want all kinds of proof of your existence. I would call the number that Social Security provides for informing them of a death. Social Security Death Index. There is also a guy on the Forum that used to work for them. Hopefully he will come along.

You may want to start even earlier with a call to the hospital. Good chance it started there. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

I seem to remember there was a character in one of the Douglas Adams books that spent a year dead for tax purposes. It is a mess. I hope it doesn't take much effort to clear up.

If you do not mind publicity, local news likes these kinds of stories. I remember when Reagan was President he was visiting some guy in the hospital. The President wished him well and asked if he needed anything. Turns out the guy had problems with getting his checks from Social Security. The problem was fixed the next day. Good luck

Corny jokes aside , you need to move on this quickly . It could take a while to straighten it out . At the first sign of difficulty , contact your Congress person . They can cut through the red tape .

Well, not to be off topic or anything but I just received a check in the mail, from a customer that died back in June. It's a little weird.
