His Royal Hiney![]() |
I have a weekly alarm for that on my phone along with alarms for all the other important schedules I don't want to miss. I have everything in my life that I need to do whether it's a one-off, weekly, monthly, yearly, or multi-year scheduled with reminders. It frees me from anxiety of possibly forgetting something. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I actually don't like that part of it, it makes me feel disorganized.

Like many others, I seem to be inundated with appointments now that I am retired. I am POA for my mother in law who is in assisted living for dementia and n her medical appointments, my wife’s medical/church/social appointments, my own medical appointments, Wednesday retired men’s breakfast/bible study, monthly men’s church breakfast, monthly men’s dinner, and church on Sundays my calendar is pretty full. Running joke on Thursday is I tell my wife “just one more day till the weekend” What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

Wow. Had no idea how many other retirees there were here. Like many of you, I kinda need to know what day it is. Wife's appointments, my appointments are no be deal since they're on the calendar. But we avoid doing things on weekends when it will be crowded. Same when I decide to go to the range. Always need to know when it's Thursday evening. Pick up my friend's dogs early Friday for our weekly outing in the hills.

I also keep a calendar on the kitchen table . I write in all of our appointments , etc. When I sit down at the table I refresh my memory of all the things we need to do . TOO MANY things going on . Mostly Doctors and Physical Therapy appointments .

That’s one of my favorite things about retirement. I always know what day it is but never know the date. I have also found that I prefer the weekdays to the weekend because of the lower population density roaming around.

It is a day ending in 'y' and that's good enough for me.

I retired in March and am the same way. I don’t want to go anywhere on the weekends. Way too many people in a real big hurry. IT has taken me 6 months to decompress from 20 years at my last job, a world famous tourist destination where I was the security director. 35 people who tried their best to get me fired everyday.

This was one of my great retirement discoveries. It's so nice doing errands during the week (after 9am and before 3pm). I only venture out on the weekends if I have to. Otherwise, it can wait till Monday. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

I know two grandparents that attend traveling sports games to watch the grandkids. They have between nine and 12 dates saved. Don't get me started on the miles they drive. This message has been edited. Last edited by: bendable, Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. My last day of work was August 15th. Still establishing new routines but the adjustment so far has been easier than expected. I can't remember the last time I felt this rested. My commute was about 350 miles per week. I told my wife I almost forgot what side the gas hatch is on. Nothing about leaving the security, income and benefits you work most of your life to obtain. But it only took a month to decide I should have done this a year ago. ___________________________ "Opinions vary" -Dalton

Besides the medical appointments we both put on the calendar, Thursday nights are sacred. That is date night and woe unto me should I forget. I retired 7 years ago and will never ever go back to wearing the yoke of organizational hierarchy.

I work rotating 12s, so my days off are flip-flopped every week. I regularly forget what day of the week it is, I just know if I have to work or not. Which often creates problems for everything else. Last week I forgot to take out the trash on Sunday night ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

My career was 24 on-48 off. Didn’t matter if it was Christmas, New Year’s Day, or birthdays. It was either A, B, or C shift. I haven’t known or cared what day it was since 1979. On EMS calls, we would ask the pt what day/date it is to establish mental impairment. Then all 4 guys would look at their watch. -------- After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box.

Last Thursday I took a road trip and drove the Cherohala Skyway. I had it practically all to myself, the only other traffic being two "adventure bike" motorcyclists, who I let by at the first safe opportunity.
