Retirement realization.

That being said, I may work again if I can find something fun and enjoyable to do.

I’ve learned that I really don’t like weekends and holidays, too many working people out there messing stuff up. I also love Mondays now, Fishing during the week is great as well as shooting, shopping, etc…

My first day of retirement was 9/1/2025.
Although I've been off work on disability since January.
The reason for disability had nothing to do with retirement; I've recovered from it.

However, I feel the same way.
I usually don't know what day of the week it is unless my wife isn't at work.
Then it is either Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, she works from home on Monday.

I have a weekly reminder on my phone to put the trash out the night before trash day.
But I usually notice others putting their trash out before that reminder goes off.. Big Grin

I'll probably never work a paying job again.
Perhaps I can volunteer on my own schedule, but not a job where I have to be there on a boss's schedule.

Yes, it certainly is.

I've been retired for almost two years.
I could never go back to work now.

I only want to know when it's Friday so i rememberto stay home. Apparently no one in Arkansas works on Friday, so , traffic is beyond ridiculous.

I've only been retired for a month and I am having a hard time just knowing what day of the week it is. It's funny, when I was working, the days would go by slow and now they are pretty quick. I think I am busier now with my honey-do lists.

The only time I ask what day it is, is when I'm planning a range trip.
Now retired, I make it a point to never go there on the weekend.

A lot of road trip destinations are much more pleasant (less crowded) on a weekday vs. a weekend.

The only reason I need to know since I retired 3 years ago is so I won't forget to go to church on Sunday.

Preach it, Brother!

I'm usually at least somewhat aware of what day it is, but the only time it matters even a little bit is holidays and weekends cuz bank and Post Office are closed.

Bought a rifle a few weeks back. Time to do the paperwork.

Me: "I have no idea what today's date is."
Sales: "It's the 4th. Do you know what day it is?"
Me: "Sure, it's Monday."
Sales: Nope, it's Tuesday. You're retired, right?"
Me: "Yep."

I used to joke with coworkers retiring to enjoy all of those Saturdays. Never thought about how weekdays are better due to most being at work.

For me, unhappiness is not knowing what day or date of the month it is.

I have a need to know where I am. If I don't know where I am geographically or chronologically then that's the definition of being lost. And nobody is happy when they realize they're lost.

I don't have a problem of where I am but I find myself asking my Google tablet what date is it and, regularly, it's for the purpose of whether I should give my dogs their cosequin tablet on the odd days.

I continue to wear a regular watch on my left hand because I like watches and I rotate what I'm wearing weekly and I wear an apple watch on my right wrist to let me know of emails or calls or notifications on my cameras or doors. Not having to be on a schedule dictated by work is freeing but having a schedule I control is reassuring for me.

On a macro scale, I keep a weekly journal to summarize my week and to write down three things I'm grateful for. I've done this since 2006. On the top left corner, I keep track of how many days I have left to live according to actuarial tables and below that, I keep track of how many days I have stopped working for a living. Next to the numbers I convert that to the number of years, months, and days. The next milestone I'm waiting to mark is to see those numbers match - that is, to have the same number of days left to live equal to the same number of days I've stopped working for a living. Those two numbers tell me where I am in my life chronologically.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Amen!

Oddly, though, my wife still keys into what day it is. She has particular preferences for when different things should/shouldn't happen.

Saturday at 5pm is happy hour. We both have to sit on the deck with an adult beverage. Other evenings are quite acceptable to sit out with a drink, but Saturday is mandatory. Friday is pizza night. Friday is no good for the housekeepers, Monday is ideal. No chores on the weekend. Gym on Monday, Tuesday, and/or Thursday.
