Like Airbnb for cars. I’m giving it a shot for the first time this weekend. About to Uber to a pickup now. Dude has a dozen vehicles and a perfect 5.0 rating over 1400+ trips since 2017, so I feel pretty good about it.

Sign up was stupid easy. Price isn’t much better than a traditional rental, but no security deposit and no wondering if they’ll have a car when you get there.

I’ll let you know how it goes. Hopefully, I don’t wake up tomorrow missing a kidney.

I used it when I went to Chicago this summer. Picked it up at O'Hare. No issues. A lot probably depends on the car owner.

I use it constantly, and never had one issue. It's a great way to "Rent" a car these days. Use with confidence!

Yep. Used them a few times. No issues.

What I like about them is many owners have tinted their car windows while rental cars do not have tinted windows. Might be a small thing but I can't stand car windows not tinted.

Hopefully this was just a bad set of circumstances, but we tried it last February in Scottsdale - first up was a Durango SRT - owner cancelled on us the day before we flew down. Second was a Benz G63 - got cancelled by that owner when we were in the Mesa airport baggage claim.

Just a disaster - this was Saturday late morning and no cars anywhere to rent - I even tried UHaul - lol.

We Uber’d to Scottsdale and finally got a Range Rover on Monday - we were so pissed it almost wrecked our trip.

I’d try it again because the idea is wonderful - rent a cool car for a few days and you know exactly what you’re getting down to the color.

Looks pretty interesting. Affordable way to rent an exotic car for a day. Could be fun.

Used it in Honolulu and rented a Tesla Model 3. No hassles, easy pickup and dropoff and was crazy cheap compared to the regular rental companies.

Turo is really safe for renters. Take care of it and you'll be fine. I have a friend that does it and he has renters leaving weed crumbs, burn holes etc, and pounds them on that.

That's the way I saw it. Rent something specific/fun for a day(s).

There's also Twisted Road which does motorcycle rentals.

My GF bought a 5 year old Audi A3 at the beginning of COVID before used car prices got stupid and rented it out on Turo for ~2 years. Due to the rental car shortage, it was rented out over 90% of the time so it was a good side hustle for her. In the end, she sold it for more than she paid for it so it was even better investment than expected.

Her favorite customers were the long term rentals (e.g. car in shop and part on backorder) as she didn't have to clean it several times a week or meet people several times a week.

She never complained about any bad renters.

I may try it someday but I would never ever put one of my vehicles up for rent. It reminds me of the old saying. What is the difference between a four wheel drive and a rental vehicle? A rental vehicle can go anywhere....

I have a friend in California that rents out his convertible Audi and is really happy with the income. I have never tried it myself.

Or as Jeremy Clarkson put it, paraphrased, a rental car is the fastest car...in the world.

How does insurance work with these? Does the car get insured through Turo? I doubt the car owner's or the renters insurance would want to pay for a commercial vehicle.

Just finished my “trip”. The app makes everything easy, including communication with the owner. As with most things of this nature, history backed by reviews are probably everything, so I’ll avoid renting from newbs just to be on the safe side.

Definitely will use Turo for local needs in the future. Considering a longer rental for a road trip to FL later this month, though.
