Mrs. Sigmund has appointments July 28 and 29, we’re spending two nights at the Residence Inn at 411 West Center. One appointment is at the Hilton Bldg, the other is in Gonda.

The hotel is connected to the clinic by a subway. She is not in a wheelchair but is unable to walk long distances. Are there places to rest in the subway? Wheelchairs to use?

Any other tips would also be appreciated.

Mayo will have plenty of wheelchairs for use. Just a tip, they are unlike any place you’ve been before. They are like a machine of efficiency in how they will have you going from one test/doctor to another. They are incredible.

You will be about a block and a half away from the Gonda building and about two blocks away from the Hilton building. Once you get into the subway (and it is vast), you should be able to travel to any of the Mayo buildings. There are wheelchair collection points near all the subway entrance points. Just grab a wheelchair and go.
You can also ask for an escort, if you are unable to push her around yourself. They will assign you a young man or woman who will take you to all your appointments.
You can also ask the hotel if they have a shuttle that will get you to the main entrance of the Gonda or Hilton buildings.
This area of Rochester is very safe and you shouldn't have any issues getting around.

The clinic takes customer service seriously. Never be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. It’s a Disney quality medical experience (sorta, kinda).

There is quite a bit of construction work going on in and near Rochester. Phone apps are usually very up to date, I would be hesitant to rely on your car based GPS if it’s not updated real time like an Apple car play type system.

Thanks for all the speedy - and encouraging - replies. We just got the appointment today, they will be sending us a letter with details, but my stress meter is now reading very low thanks to your tips.

I'm good at pushing the wheelchair.

We'll be coming up 63 thru Waterloo IA. It appears the construction S of Spring Valley will be done by end of July. I see some closures in downtown Rochester, but W Center St appears to be clear.

Downtown Rochester is a mess with construction right now so be aware. I would guess that if you call ahead you can have the hotel get a wheelchair for you and have it in your room when you get there, if they are not available right in the subway below the hotel. There are resting points in the subway. Shuttle would be another option. You will likely have to go through metal detectors so leave your hardware in the hotel Big Grin

Found a map of the subway, looks like the Residence Inn is connected via the subway.

I’ve worked in hospitals for over 40 years. We took our daughter to Mayo, and the efficiency—treating the time of the patient (and family) is at the top of their priority. It was pretty awesome.

All the best for both of you. In addition to the reason for the trip, dealing with its logistics is no fun either.

Yes, I forgot to mention that. That is a post Covid add-on. I used to carry in there all the time but no longer. I have accidentally gone in with my pocketknife in my pocket and not tripped the metal detectors but I wouldn't rely on it.
They have cameras everywhere and security is promptly on the scene for any disturbances.

BTW, there is some incredible artwork on display everywhere (elevator areas, waiting areas, etc). Take a moment to read the descriptions by each piece.
