I hate forced EV vehicles with a passion, but from a performance standpoint “muscle cars” transitioning to EV actually makes the most sense.

They are big, heavy, and fast 0-60, which is exactly the point of a “muscle car”. I drive a naturally aspirated sports car, and don’t even bother trying to out accelerate a Tesla S/Porsche Taycan etc.

I prefer a gasoline engine. Preferably turbocharged. Something about them I just like.

That said, an electric muscle car is a reality. Kid that used to work for me has a Challanger Hellcat. One of the owners of the company has a Tesla Model 3 Performance. In the 1/4 mile, the Hellcat might be able to run him down. Might.
Talk all the shit you want about EV’s, they’re pretty goddamn fast. There’s a hell of a giggle factor when you hammer on the right pedal and the massive torque slams you back in the seat harder than you ever would have expected.

If given the opportunity, take one for a drive. It might change your mind.

That said, I think it’s fucking stupid that the option to buy a gas powered muscle car is going away. The whole switch all vehicles to EVs is beyond absurd, and people aren’t going to be able to afford them. We better up the ante with our public transportation services as it’ll end up being a nation of people who can’t afford to drive. Especially when the cost of electricity skyrockets because the demand cannot be met to charge all the EVs.

As a MOPAR guy and an American, I think it’s a shame, of course, to have the EV crap forced upon us so I agree with most of all above. My advice is to buy your big displacement motors now. I know I did.

Not much mention here of the new twin turbo inline six HURRICANE motor that is coming to the Dodge, Jeep, Ram lineups at then same time we are losing the big V8’s. Or the new EV muscle car motor. There’s a bunch of articles out there. Here’s one …

I drove a Challenger for four years that had the "smaller" 5.7L Hemi engine in it. I called it my midlife crisis car (I've pretty much always been a pickup guy and up to then had been driving the same `97 F-250 for literally 20 years - that was a great truck). The Challenger was great fun to drive even when I wasn't hammering the throttle. But between the payments and the insurance it was costing me almost $850 a month. So a year ago, looking forward to retiring, I decided I had better things to do with that money and sold the car. I still kinda miss it, but it did get the midlife crisis out of my system.

Since then I've been driving the old beater 2000 Tundra that spent most of the time sitting in the driveway (I bought it used in `17 after I lost the F-250). But it's making disturbingly unhappy sounds that the dealer doesn't seem to be able to locate, so it's time to replace it. 7 weeks ago I went to the Dodge dealer and ordered a new `22 Ram half-ton. No idea yet when it might get here. After test driving one with the standard 3.6L V6, I ordered the 5.7L Hemi. While we were talking, the salesman told me that Dodge is discontinuing that engine for the `23 model year. I was surprised and a little dismayed by that, but I hadn't heard yet that the Charger and Challenger were going away too. `tis a sad day.

While I was deciding what new truck to buy, I found that Toyota doesn't even offer a V8 option for the Tundra anymore. Now Dodge is going the same route, and I imagine that Ford and GM will follow suit before long.

What engine does Ford use in their police cars? I had a 72 charger back in 1976, took a 426 hemi out of a wrecked 68 charger and dropped it in. Twin 4's. I could burn a tank of gas in about 20 minutes

This. Most people that hammer on EVs have never driven one and felt the torque. It's like being on a rocket sled. Took a SWAT cop buddy for a couple quick sprints in mine. He's a Mustang guy. Changed his mind.

Though I've long lusted-after a Challenger with a big honkin' Hemi innit, there's been a near-zero probability I'd ever buy one. I.e.: If I hit the lottery big-time, bought a new house, with a honkin' big garage is about what it would take. Nonetheless: I find this news somewhat depressing

I've thought about getting a Challenger. I would paint it orange with the stars and bars on the roof. But then I'm a big pu$$y who is afraid of being cancelled.

Charger should be Hemi Orange with the Bars-N-Stars..

Although... a 74 Yellow Road Runner with Daisy Duke and I wouldn't care about 1/4 mile times......

As long as I can pass people going 10 under the speed limit, I’m good. It’s not about raw horsepower and acceleration for me, I love the way the Challenger looks, and I have the 5.7L in my RAM. When I stomp on the throttle, that sucker roars. I want that in a low, wide “looks like the 60’s humped my college years” car. I haven’t ever had a speeding ticket anyways, and I know driving a car like that as if I want one is an open invitation to far more “before I reach for my wallet, officer, I’d like to inform you…” than I care for.

My other thought is that typically American muscle cars are very blocky compared to exotics or EVs. The EVs are ran through tons more CFD models to squeeze our range. Less drag = more range.

I wonder what a smoothed out Charger / Challenger would look like to lessen the drag & extend the range. My guess is they'd be unrecognizable as the brand is known.

Max torque at zero RPM. There is potential here. But batteries are the weak spot and will continue to be for a long time.
