1987 - Meyers Manx VW with 1100cc engine torn apart in the back. Traded this and a broken 1977 Honda CR-125 for a 1961 Baja Bug with no engine.

Traded the Baja Bug, a wrecked 1975 Yamaha RD-350 and $450.00 for my first running car a 1972 AMC Javelin with a 232 inline six and three on the floor that I totaled in the middle of 1988 by making a left turn and getting hit.

1989 was a 1968 AMC Javelin with the 390 V-8, a two barrel carburetor, and Borg Warner T-10 four speed manual transmission (car would pass anything but a gas station). Friend wrecked this car in late 1990.

1990 - 1977 Datsun 280Z with a McCloud competition clutch - Traded for a Jeep.

1993 - 1970 Jeep CJ-5 - sold in 1995

1994 - 1980 Chevy Blazer K-5 - traded in around 2004

1999 - picked up a 1976 Corvette L-48 4-speed (still have) and it is a project.

2004 picked up a 2000 Z71 Tahoe - Sold in 2017
2004 Mom gave me her old pickup - 1975 Chevy 3/4 ton long bed with 292 inline six. Truck body being held together by the paint as she had it in Oceanside CA for a few years while she lived down there - traded in.

2005 1997 GMC x-cab short bed 4x4 pickup (this is what the 1975 Chevy pickup and 1980 Blazer were traded in on) with a 350 V-8 and 4:10 gears - sold for a loss in 2014 due to lack of use.

2012 - 2005 Chevy Tahoe Z71 (my wife drives this)
2015 - 2002 Diesel VW bug (totaled in 2018by a driver who ran a stop sign - still have for parts.

2018 - 2012 VW Golf TDI
201

Interesting thread. I tend to hold on to my cars, so the list isn't too long.

1. 1990 Chevrolet Celebrity Eurosport Wagon. It was a hand me down from my parents, and was also the only vehicle I've ever caused an accident in. I loved that thing. Pretty peppy for a 16 year old, lots of room (seated 8 officially, 14 unofficially.) Even though it was front wheel drive, with about 4 teenagers in the "way back" for weight and judicious parking brake application you could do some pretty solid donuts on the starting line of the high school cross country course (I paid big for that later.) I totaled it driving into the back of a Dodge Durango at about 10 miles an hour. We were stopped on the exit ramp of the interstate. Traffic cleared, the Durango took off. I looked back, there was no traffic, so I took off too. Well, while I looked back the Durango stopped and I ran square into his trailer hitch. It wasn't much damage, but the car wasn't worth shit either so it was totaled.

2. 1986 Jeep Cherokee with the 2.8 V6. This was the first car I bought myself, to replace the Celebrity. It was a true character building vehicle. Something was always broken on it, and on the rare occasion everything was working "well" it was still awful. The 2.8 engine is probably one of the worst ever made. It had the unique combination of no power combined with awful fuel mileage. On a good day it's 0-60 time was probably in the mid 20 second range, and it got damn near single digit gas mileage doing it.

3. 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport with the 4.0 and 5 speed. I bought it in 2002, and I still have and love it. I will drive it until the day I die barring unfortunate circumstances. I joked in college that I had more landings in that thing than I got learning to fly, but it wasn't a lie. My best friend's parents had a grass strip, and it had a hump at the end of it. At about 80 mph you could catch some pretty good air and I'm probably really lucky to have survived those years. Even given all the abuse I gave it, it was utterly reliable and needed nothing at all until about 200k miles when I started hacking it up and breaking parts 4 wheeling.

4.2006 Pontiac GTO. I love the car and it's fun to drive, but it has been a huge dog turd in the reliability department. It has been plagued with belt squeal and random intermittent electrical issues since the day I bought it. When I bought it, I planned on keeping it long term as well, but I just don't know. It seems like it's broken down as often as it runs.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

An interesting thread. Makes me think back to the cars I really loved. And the ones not so much.

1961 Morris Mini Cooper.
My very first car. I was a senior in high school and I bought it from a classmate for $300. I put $600 into it, having the engine balanced, blueprinted, dual carbs, Sun Supertach, etc. What a fabulous car! I blew away a 1969 Pontiac GTO in it!

1972 Chevrolet Vega GT. My first new car. I bought it through the PX overseas, getting stateside delivery. Despite the bad reputation the model gained, mine was near-perfect, until I got married and traded it in for a

1978 Chevrolet Malibu Classic. Bought this off the showroom floor when I took my Vega in for service. It was a sea green with tonneau cover and white interior. It was a nice, family car. The sunroof developed a leak, and I would get drenched after a rain.

1986 Nissan SE V6 4x4. My pickup truck phase. I originally wanted a Toyota 4Runner, but Toyota dealers were (and still are, from what I can tell) a pain to deal with. So I went with Nissan. Nice truck, but I really didn't NEED a truck.

1993 Honda Accord EX. The only car I ever leased. My marriage had fallen apart and I was straightening out my life. A leased car seemed to be an easier answer than owning. Right. I told myself that even if I grew to love the car, when the lease was up it was going back. That was a tough move to make, but I really wanted a BMW. Instead, I got a

1995 Mercedes-Benz C280. CPO with about 15K miles. My daughter and her friends loved the fact I drove a Mercedes. So did I. Smile In fact, I liked it so well that I decided to order (build-to-order) my

2000 Mercedes-Benz CLK430. At the time the small block V8 pumped out what now seems an anemic 275 HP. But it was small, light and nimble, and it was fun to drive. I kept that car for 12 years.

2012 Mercedes-Benz E350 Coupe. When the CLK (C209) was phased out, it was remade as an E class coupe (C207). Technically, it is closer to the C Class, sharing the same wheelbase and axle track lengths. The E sedan (W212) is built in Sindelfingen, Germany, the coupe in Bremen, alongside the W204 C-Class. Despite having two less cylinders, the advances in automotive engineering enabled the 350 V6 to pump out 305HP. I felt this was going to be a long-term love relationship until my friend at the dealer showed me a

2014 Mercedes-Benz E350 Coupe 4Matic. I didn't think I could like a car better than my 2012, but one drive in the 4Matic convinced me otherwise. I will likely keep this car a while because it spends most of its time in my garage. That's because when I moved into my new home in 2017, it came with Electric Vehicle Service Equipment (fancy name for electric car charger). Curious, I bought for cash a

2015 smart fortwo Electric Drive (ED). This was meant to be an experiment, but it has turned out to be the perfect local runabout vehicle for me, considering most of my driving is less than ten miles from home (work, shopping, dining, etc.) With this car, I'm at my destination before my E350 would be warmed up!

I never did get that BMW... Smile

I honestly miss the Scottsdale and the Century. The Century was just right in the niche for a daily driver and harkened back to the days when my grandparents would take me to church in their LeSabre. The Scottsdale, I made all kinds of memories in from high school through college. Two bench seats, a camper shell and a thick rubber bed liner, just use your imagination. People got out of Queen Mary’s way with me at the helm. Saddle tanks, and AM/FM. Good to go. Before it was mine to command, we got rear-ended at a red light and didn’t realize it until we dragged the idiot halfway into the intersection with the ball hitch wedged halfway into their engine before everyone started honking. That bumper was made for the apocalypse.

1) 1966 Ford Fairlane with a 200. My first car that cost $200 and I could stand in the engine compartment with my feet on the GROUND to work on it.

2)1969 Olds 88 with a 455. Wow, I had a car that could accelerate, but with the "economical" 2 barrel card, would get 19 mpg on the highway.

3) 1977 Chevy Monte Carlo. My first luxury car with power everything including a moon roof

4) 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. My first new car that some dumbass hit and me and totaled it 2 months after I finished the 3-yr note.

5) 1985 Chevy Corvette. Bought used from an Air Force pilot. Wife hated the car and was hit 4x in it. Don't ever get a low slung black car as no one sees you on the road.

5) 1990 Chevy Corvette. Beautiful "dark red metallic" that I had to sell after we had our child.

6) 1998 BMW M3. This was my 4-dr replacement to my prior Corvette. Very impressive and I was hooked.

7) 2002 BMW 330i convertible. My first convertible.

8) 2008 BMW 335i convertible. Boy technology really raises the bar. Fastetst car I had owned thus far and I could drive "topless" LOL.

9) 2011 BMW m3 convertible. What a blast.

Not including any of my spouses cars in the above.

1989 Toyota Supra Turbo.
First car and first love. I will have another one when the time is right.

1993 Eclipse GSX.
Got in all sorts of trouble. Spun it across I-95 at 110mph, fit 7.5 people, Attempting a 4 wheel burn out did not impress the women in the Porsche 944, and only resulted in smoked ego and clutch.

1997 Acura Integra GS-R.
First new car, bought it myself at 18. Went from Miami to Yuba City and back 3 times. Was stolen and stripped, flooded in a mall parking lot from a no name tropical system, Made sweet love to who was to become my ex wife in the hatch with the back seat folded, on the side of the road on the the worlds smallest mountain range (sutter buttes). A 1996 Chevy Caprice running a red light finally killed the Integra with 140k miles on it.

1991 Nissan NX2000.
Fun unique car, had it for 4 freakin weeks. Put a clutch in it the first week. 4th week leaving the neighborhood, i was at stop sign and on the phone Roll Eyes, left the stop sign, didn't see the rapidly approaching Jaguar. Jag 1- Nissan-0.

1990 Nissan Maxima SE.
Not a great time $$ wise and i was luck to get the Maxima. This was a real beater! 3 of the 4 windows didn't work. The rear wing was coming off of each end, no radio, and the exhaust broke one night the way home from work. Yup! dragged that son if a bitch 20miles north on I-95 spewing sparks like a mofo! Brakes went out while pulling in to work one morning, used first gear , E-brake and the parking stone to stop. At this point i wanted a new car, and wanted a miata real bad. So i placed a toy miata on my desk at work and used that toy to motivate me and sell anything and everything the company offered. 3 months later i walked in to a dealership and handed over cash for my first miata. I got $200 trade in for the maxima, i thanked them greatly and ran!

1994 Mazda Miata.
I did it!! I worked may ass off to buy this car! This lil bugger got deep in my blood! Took a trip to Deals Gap/Tail of the Dragon, and made many more trips with all the miatas. After modding it a bit to my liking (wheels, suspension, rollbar,I/H/E.) I stopped by my mechanic/dealer one day and low and behold he had a turbo charged miata ion the lot. I took a test drive....HOLY SHIT!!!! Yes it stalled twice in the middle of a very very bad neighborhood( i should have taken this as a sign), but it had 250 whp!! This thing was fucking fast!!!! I came back and fully drunken on boost, we talked some numbers and i stupidly traded my first miata for 1996 turbo.

1996 Mazda Miata Turbo.

This miata was fast and not built all that great as i found out over time, and turned into a nightmare. Wiring issues with the computer and the cooling system made you watch all the gauges constantly. Learning how to read and use the Compulink management system was a hassle also. Certainly not as easy as we have it today. Had this puppy with the top down at 150mph on I-27 with an air temp at 50 degrees, i swear it got to 10 degrees inside the car! The engine blew on me. I decided to rebuild the car the way i wanted. I ordered an engine ( custom built 2.0L) from a "reputable" Mazda engine builder in TX, along with a new computer management system. I got a new rear diff, bigger turbo, heavier axles, new clutch and flywheel and a bunch of other parts. I was aiming for 500 hp. This wasn't meant to be. Over the course of 3 months i got back and forth from the engine builder, i finally got sick of it and ended up doing a $7500.00 charge back on my card. Found another engine builder, got the engine shipped to house, the turbo miata has been sitting at my dealer for 5 months at this point. I show up with a flat bed tow truck with my new engine on the back. While they are planning to move the engine off the truck, i look over my turbo miata and notice the injectors and wiring is missing as well as some other parts. The owner of the lot is giving me some bullshit story. So.... I just said fuck it, told the tow truck driver to haul my car on the bed and drop everything off at my house. Sold off the parts and car on Ebay.

1994 Mazda Miata.
I bought this one a few months after buying the turbo, I figured a reliable unmodded ( light mods only lol) for daily driving and the turbo miata for fun. The only real highlight was i this car caught a tractor trailer tire kicked up from a mustang on the turnpike. Bent the from fender and passenger side A pillar, and cracked the windshield. This miata was sold off along with the 96 turbo.

2006 Nissan 350Z
With all the proceeds from the miatas and parts, i got my 2nd new car. Still needing to mod things, i got the Z to 275WHP. Fast, loud and fun. Topped out at 161mph according to the speedo. Went tot Deals Gap/ Tail of the dragon with the z , met a tractor trailer on the Gap! I lost badly... The story end sadly with this car and i won't get in to it here.

1990 Mazda Miata.
Beater miata, smurf blue with hand painted racing stripes. Drive shaft decided to leave the car on the way home from work one night 5 miles form home on I-95. Ended up getting stolen from my job's parking lot one night after i picked up the 94 from my mechanics shop below.

1994 Mazda Miata.
It is now 2010, Found a 94 black and tan just like my first one. This one came from TX on a truck with 30k miles. First day i had it, i went to dinner with some friends and someone tagged the rear bumper! I did all the mods at once, for 2 months this car was in the shop getting everything installed. No turbo, just about everything else though. Had the car fir 4 years before a lot of issues started to pop up. Unfortunately the repairs got to the point that it wasn't viable to keep dumping $$ in to it. I sold it... Found a deal on a car my brother wasn't using.

2011 Toyota Camry. Frown

This is sucking the soul and happiness from me little by little everyday. As i said i got a good deal on the price, my brother wasn't using it.
My first automatic since my Supra. It is truly an appliance on 4 wheel. Nothing exciting or fun.

Well, i broke out my toy miata again! As soon as i find gainful employment, i will put the toy miata in the desk and work my ass off!

I want to get a 2020 miata and pay cash!!

Drove all 80's cars until I hit my 30's and could afford a new car. Turning wrenches yourself and driving old school cars saved me tons of money.
