Need recommendations for bandages or wound dressings
I have an issue on my inner thigh next to/ under the buttock cheek. I am needing a dressing that will by golly stay stuck there as it is a sweaty area.

Band-aid won't stick for long, Duo-Derm while sticking everywhere else won't stick for long, and Tegaderm doesn't last for more than an hour there.

I have been going to the hospital wound care three days a week where they dress this wound (I removed some cyst/boil material) and their dressing lasts less than eight hours... I need a dressing to last Saturday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon and again from Tuesday afternoon to Thursday afternoon.

I don't have a problem using duct tape, but the nurses at wound care won't use it (even when I brought it in).

Unfortunately due to some drainage the hospital nurse said using the liquid bandage as a dressing could trap the drainage causing an abscess.

They make some white medical tape that will occasionally remove flesh when you peal it off. Not sure if that's what you want. (Might be 3M Transpore but my wife hasn't confirmed)

In addition to using a high quality medical tape, there's a liquid called "Tincture of Benzoin" that, if applied to skin before placing the medical tape, will further enhance the tape's adhesive.

It's available from pharmacies and medical suppliers.

(Don't put it directly on the wound; swab it onto clean and dry skin in the area where the tape will be on the edge of the bandage.)

That's a tough area for a bandage, due to the movement, folds, and sweat. But since tape + Tincture of Benzoin can handle staying put on sweaty, ever-shifting feet during day-long grueling hikes, it can most likely handle this groin region too.

You should also consider investing in a few pairs of some sort of close-fitting slick-textured underwear, like polyester/spandex boxer-briefs, to minimize clothing movement and abrasion against the bandage.

I have 3M Medipore. It seems to be okay for securing a dressing... I was using it to cover duoderm so that the back of the duoderm didn't stick to my clothing. I may have to take my roll with me today so we can try to use it over whatever dressing gets applied today.

RogeJSK, Thank you for the name of the Tincture of Bensoin. Also I wear the Duluth Trading "Buck Naked" briefs usually... when a dressing stays in place the clothing doesn't stick.

We had this wound closed for a couple weeks, but I ride a bicycle for exercise and that pushed more cyst/boil material to the surface, and the wound opened again.

To be honest, if the hospital isn’t using something better there is probably a reason.

I had the same/similar problem. The answer was two months in the hospital with a wound vac.

A black sponge was used to fill the wound, and then covered in a "drape" that looked like saran wrap with one side that was sticky. A tube came from the center of the black sponge and was attached to vacuum machinery. Eventually, as the wound healed and filled in, a portable wound vac was issued to me and I became an outpatient.

The vacuum kept everything in place.

Maybe your wound is not that severe. But I would definitely ask the doctors about it.

There is also silver packing that reduces infections and needs to be replaced at the hospital every two or three days.

Serious wounds require constant and professional care and maintenance. Don't try to do it yourself with duct tape!

I'm surprised a tegaderm doesn't work. I had a cyst removed from a similar location and I never had a problem with the tegaderm coming off, even if I would get drainage from the wound.

Mind you, I have a nurse for a fiancee, so I was able to get it professionally dressed twice a day, so maybe that's it.

I have never been able to get tegaderm to work for more than a few hours (less if I am working out or riding my bicycle).

So I took in my 3M Medipore and asked if they would put that on to keep what ever dressing they used in place. Today's nurse just used that to hold the PolyMem (pink sponge) in place. I hope this works. I have had okay luck with the Medipore (gauze with adhesive on one side) sticking to me.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Please keep them coming as dressings have evolved in the last 30 years Wink

Have you considered changing your exercise regiment until the wound heals?

Nothing sticks down there as I sweat all the time... due to my growing my own fur coat. About the only time I am not sweating is if I can set the environment to about 62 degrees.

Even walking to go from the living room to the bathroom will have the dressings fall off.

So far the Medipore by 3M is still in place (it was applied at 16:30 yesterday), and hopefully it will stay until tomorrow afternoon when I go back in to wound care.

These aren't deep wounds, but material (cysts, boils, and hairs) keep coming to the surface.

Glad you might have found a solution. Good luck!
