Windows are 25 years old and seen better days. The bottom 3 are crank to open and I have always hated them as the have never really sealed well. They condensate on occasion. Storms we just had ripped off the aluminum trim (yeah no big deal).
But figure it is a good time to take the opportunity to replace them.
Total window opening is 90”w x 80”h. Local independent guy says $3,000 for 3 double hung vinyl windows, low e glass, half screens, and redo the trim, with lifetime window warranty from the manufacturer, 3 years labor warranty, removal of all the old debris.

I am not worried too much about having the same setup as I have now but do want to be open some of the windows for cross airflow when weather is nice.

Does not seem crazy especially with how prices have been skyrocketing on everything. Have Window World coming out to do an estimate too. They did the windows at my cabin a couple summers back for like $7500 which was for 11 windows but all were all probably half the size of those windows and the house was built in the 20s so I had to pay an extra hazardous disposal fee.

Thoughts?

That price is about what the cost of a good set of triples would be, Anderson, Pella, before labor, vinyl and misc. materials.

Did he provide images, manufacturer and model of the windows?

Anderson pricing is what came to my mind. If you're going to pay Anderson pricing, might as well get Anderson. And I'm sure they wouldn't mind suggesting a different set up that will cost more but might be more effective.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." $3K for three windows, including low-e glass, half screens, trim work, and a lifetime warranty, seems pretty fair these days. It might be worth getting one or two more quotes, but if your local guy's number is around that, you're probably in a good spot.

Vinylmax Franklin windows.

https://www.vinylmax.com/franklin/

Reviews show they being a solid 2nd tier window.
They are also a local company with local manufacturing which is a good thing in my book.

Couple more estimates pending so we shall see.

I used Vinylmax Newtons when I redid our entire house.

Where you have to be careful is that if you are installing them in a replacement fashion, you're relying on the previous windows being flashed properly. If they are not, those problems will persist.

We took our old windows completely out, and installed the new windows as you would on new construction.

Also, options from the window manufacturers are relatively inexpensive. Upgrading to triple pane, extra strength glass, etc. Your contractor may want to mark them up quite a bit, but you could likely negotiate that down.
