I was pleasantly surprised at Publix last weekend. I seldom shop at Publix, no reason other than habit and convenience. I got a half gallon of their house brand ice cream, and it was an actual full half gallon, no false bottom on the container or anything. It was, of course, a little more expensive, but that is OK, I feel like I wasn't shrink-flated.

Yup. It used to be "the good stuff" -- true to its name, it was squeezed from fresh Florida oranges, never from concentrate.

They kept the same name, but now it's a mix of Concentrate and central / South American imported oranges.

Container size went down (now about 80% of original) and price went up.

For true sensory overload, try their Chocolate Trinity variety. They pack so much flavor into that container, they should probably charge more.

I just ended up with a 13 pound bag of weed and feed, whereas they used to be 15-20.

I went in Sam's Club this week to buy some baby back pork ribs to smoke this weekend. I looked at the price and thought it really hasn't changed much since I last purchased some. THEN I looked and saw that instead of there being three(3) racks of ribs in the package, there were only TWO(2)!!! Same price for 1/3 less product!!

This might seem a little odd, but I think it fits.

My tap water, while it won't sicken or kill me, doesn't taste very good, so I buy this water …



… mostly to make coffee, and also for cooking where the water comes in direct contact with the food. I used to buy it for around a dollar. Now it is over 25% higher. But what irks me even more? Note the handy carrying strap. It no longer has this.

A wise investment would probably be an under sink reverse osmosis system. I never knew how bad my water tasted until I installed a RO system in my kitchen, then one day drank water from my bathroom faucet. It was terrible. RO is the way to go. Much cheaper in the long run.

You’re taking all that goodness outta the water!!!!

One ship I was on we had bromine tasting water..sometimes we got paint tasting water (white is better than red). On another ship we got JP4 tasting water…for you land lubbers-it’s water that has been gently rolled across rocks covered in eau-de-diesel in a babbling brook with chirping birds and tar balls rolling along with it…

I found today that sugar is now in 4 lb bags…when did this happen?

The saltine crackers we like shortened the individual sleeves by 2 inches. The box however remains the same size.

Sugar bags were reduced from 5 lbs. YEARS ago, at least Imperial brand. I stopped drinking sweet tea at home, so really havn’t bought sugar on a regular basis in 10 years. I remember the bag getting reduced from 5 lbs. that far back. First time it happened was a true Whiskey Tango Foxtrot moment…

Blue Bell ice cream is still a true half gallon, though the price now is almost $8.00 per. I remember 2 for $6 specials (may have even been 2 for $5) back in the 80’s and 90’s when I was on the tennis court 5 and 6 days a week. Fortunately I’ve lost my sweet tooth…

Common theme on TP…I was punching a grumpy the other day and noticed how NARROW the roll looked on the wall mount. Thought I was going nuts…thanks for verifying I’m not…

Deciding it was time to "switch back" eating wise, two days ago I went to stock up on frozen vegetables. I went to a more out of the way store I used to shop in BECAUSE their store branded ones were much cheaper than the name brands. Well what I shocked. The physical bags were 3/4 the size. What was in the bag, maybe 30-40% full. And the price was about the same in as the name brands, but with less product.

I was really shocked because the amount was so small I wasn't sure what you'd do with it. Enough that you could make a meal for two and it would provide one nice sized serving per person. But no more. Say if you had meat and one, maybe two additional items to go with it.

Does me no good, I don't cook/eat that way. I'll make a big bag of broccoli that you would serve your whole family as a side order, and that's what I'll eat as the meal.

Last night I ate a pork loin that would have fed two, maybe three people. Tonight I will have 2-3 peoples worth of spinach as the meal.

You're not the first one to say that.

I don't have a brand new but old bar of soap around, still in the wrapper, but it seems as if the current offerings of new bars of soap seem to be quite a bit smaller than what I remember.

Smaller, easily slips out of hand, have to get a new one after only a few uses. I hate to be wasteful but I don't like a bar of soap when it gets used to a small size that always slip out of hand.

I'm wondering now if I should try the liquid soap in the plastic bottle.
