Oh! And for the love of all that's holy, mrvmax, if you're going to shave your head with a razor, get yourself an alum bar and use it. No matter what razor you're actually using, if you're taking it down to skin, alum bar! Total game changer. A single edge gives me basically no ingrown hairs, and if there's any razor burn or irritation from getting too heavy-handed or over shaving, the alum bar stops it cold.

Agreed. An alum bar is great for minor cuts and irritation. I also keep a styptic pencil on hand for the occasional bigger cuts. (I've been shaving my head for 15+ years, and I still get a good bleeder once or twice a year. Usually when I get in a hurry. Be very careful around skin tags and moles.)

Great info, I had no idea, thanks.

A 6 blade razor that you whap 4-5 times in a spot, becuase its fast, means you ran a blade over that skin 24-30 times. Was that really a good blade, will this really reduce irritation.

A single blade 3-4 times across an area, comes out super smooth and has far less irritation.
Food for thought.
Since I switched to a single blade I have not had a single ingrown hair or blade rash.

That's not really how it works or my experience. Since using them my skin irritation has all but disappeared.

I used a headblade shaver for several years. Does a great job giving a close shave.

Then last Christmas I received a Pitbull Skull Shaver. It’s faster than the Headblade but doesn’t shave quite as close.

Both are easier to use than a standard disposable for me.

This wasn't directed to me, but I'll respond anyhow. If it works for you, that's all that matters. Just know that if you ever want to take the Pepsi challenge, my offer stands. Smile

I bought and use a PitBull head shaver. It's a 4-head electric rechargeable, and I should have done it sooner.

I take a blood thinner, so risking a nick or cut on the noggin, well, when I have done it shaving before it ends up looking like I've butchered a live chicken in my bathroom. Smile

There are a few models, and I was just like your situation. I was getting a monthly haircut and basically having them clipper it to a very short setting. I've easily paid for the PitBull a few times over by now. easy to use, waterproof, rechargeable, easy to clean and you can shave dry or wet, or use lotion or cream if you are worried about irritation. It's never irritated me, so i just leave my head damp and shave it post-shower every day or two (i have left it unshaved up to 4-5 days) and it just zips right through. I bought the PitBull Gold one. One of the best purchases I have made.

They specifically warn that it's NOT to be used for shaving heads but it does a great job. My theory is someone sliced the shit out of their scalp not paying attention and tried to sue.

Same here.

Switched to the Pitbull electric in November. It shaves closer on a particular crease on the back of my head/neck than any razor I’ve tried. I prefer to use it wet with shaving cream in the shower. Pretty easy to clean up that way too.

Another Pitt Bull gold user. Two years and no problems. Very long time between charges.

Thought I would update on what I ended up using, I decided to not use a traditional razor blade shaver and opted for cordless.

I started with this cheap one from Amazon since it was on sale at the time. It works pretty well and the shape makes it easy to shave the noggin.
Cheap shaver

Costco had the Braun Series 9 Sport on sale ($50 off) so I just got that and have used that a couple of days. The Braun shave closer but due to the shape is a bit harder to use on the head. The cheap Amazon one is easier to use but doesn't get as close of a shave. Really, there is no noticeable difference in length so the cheap Amazon one would have worked but I figure the Braun will last longer.

I used to shave about every 3 days in the shower. About 3 years I just started using my electric razor, which I prefer because it leaves about a half a millimeter. But I still have a supply of razors.
