Tried to negotiate a otd price on a used rig.
In the end they wanted between $500-$1000" for "dmv fees after we agreed on a purchase price.
I told them the title transfer is about $100. So forget it. Roll Eyes

An OTD price is just that.

Yup, I don't care how they want to structure the fees & price, as long as the trade in is right [sales tax offset], the OTD price is what matters

Same old tricks. They will never change.

That's right up there with the "destination fee" for new cars.

Can you imagine going to Home Depot and being told that the $100 tag on a tool did not include the "destination fee"?

Years ago, I found a used motorcycle that I wanted at a BMW dealer. He tried to pull the usual shit. I wrote a check for the amount that I was willing to pay, complete except for my signature.

I handed it to him on my way out of the door and said, "Call me if you want me to sign this, for an out the door price."

I walked out, he caught me before I got to the street and agreed to my offer.

I've had this happen a few times over the years when negotiating the price of a new car. One of those times stood out. I made it onto the street when the sales guy flagged me down to tell me they accepted my offer. I loved it. Big Grin

I’m not sure paying the sales tax again is right with a used vehicle. In most states they want that again when you transfer title.

I just bought a used car online from a dealer in Tulsa, they would not budge on the price, told them I was not paying $1000 for their tracking device and they agreed to delete it, came time to buy and they added $800 out of state DMV fees, had me over a barrel so I paid it. Would not have cost me anything to walk into the DMV here. Overall the car was just what I wanted and priced OK. Happy with the deal, didn't want to lose it over $800
