Oil change intervals are to far apart for break in engine oil these days for my liking. My car typically goes 6K miles before I hit 10%. Honda recommends that the oil filter be changed every other oil change but I spin a new one on each time anyway.
I let the truck's computer tell me when to change the oil. I'm towing a 38 foot long, 13 1/2 foot tall, 14,000lb 5th wheel or an 8,000lb boat. Works out to be about every 8,000 miles or so. I use Shell Rotella T6 or Valvoline Premium Blue. Both are full synthetic and I pay less than $5 a quart for them.
Changing the oil certainly won't hurt it, but I doubt it needs to be done.
Your manual calls for 5,000 miles intervals for the gas motor. For the diesel motor, it says follow the oil change monitor, or 5,000 mile intervals for severe duty and 8,000 mile intervals for non-severe duty.
Of particular note, the manual calls for 10,000 mile brake fluid changes and 20,000 mile transmission oil changes for severe duty. This message has been edited. Last edited by: trapper189,

Most new engines come with high moly break in oil. I would NOT change the oil early. 300 miles of towing is not a big deal.
The oil filter will catch any metal shavings or grit left over from the manufacture of the engine. Me personally, I do the full mileage recommendation by the manufacturer for the first oil change. That little extra bit of moly in the oil help your engine to break in properly.
My only exception to this is if the engine is a late model design that has direct fuel injection into the cylinder head. These engines are not really dialed in yet and have terrible fuel dilution, so these engines (as of right now) benefit from early oil changes.

I had a brand new Civic that it was made clear to not drive over 60 mph for the first (300?) miles and then to get the oil changed at something like 1,000 miles.
I'd get the oil changed now.

I have a 2018 Titan as well . The manual recommends oil changes at 5k intervals , including the initial one . When you start asking about oil change intervals on the internet your answers are going to be all over the map . And the only oil recommended is 0W-20 synthetic so forget those 3k OCI's .

Unless it's a diesel. Chapter 9, page 17:
"OIL CHANGE MONITOR.
This vehicle is equipped with oil change monitor. It calculates engine oil and filter change interval base on driving conditions. Driving in severe conditions will shorten the engine oil and filter change interval. When the Engine Oil–Service Due Now warning appears in the vehicle information display, the engine oil and filter need to be replaced."
The diesel use 10w30 CJ-4 or for cold weather 5w40 CJ-4.

Not true. SOME do. Honda has been known to do this. But actually, it's fairly rare for special break-in lubes to be used. Happens more often when engines are rebuilt - but from the factory, in general, special lubes are not used.

As for mileage go by the manual. Our Jeep requires full synthetic and is changed at 6000 miles. Computer says still has 25% oil life. After warranty is gone I will let it go to about 10% oil life left.
