Sad news indeed.

This thread, now at 19 pages, is a testament to his influence on this board.

My condolences to his family.

Well I hate to hear that. We knew it was a matter of time after he told us about hospice. I am really going to miss him and his posts.

I’ll be saying a prayer for his family.

I looked forward to reading his contributions each day. I was lucky to live close and had the pleasure of a few lunches with him. What a fascinating fellow. A true Texas gentleman. RIP.

He could find a lot of interesting articles but his best trait was to be able to discuss or debate anything politely and remain on friendly terms with everyone.

Jim was my friend and we stayed in touch up until about a week ago. I was going to Austin and wanted to drop in but in typical Jim fashion he said not to waste my time to see an old guy in bed.

We had great meals - I would try to meet up whenever I was working in San Diego.

I remember our last dinner at a great restaurant in La Jolla with Martine - I think we talked, ate and drank for about 3 hours.

My last lunch with Jim was right around the time he was thinking about moving out of California. I was sitting on the transom of his boat and gave him grief about trucking this all the way to Austin. He just laughed. We then drove over to the golf course restaurant and had a great lunch on the patio enjoying a great blue sky day.

Jim, farewell and rest in peace. You were a great friend. I shall miss you, your humor, your postings and most of all, the lunches. You made me a better person. Thank you for that.

Ah crap. Frown Yes, he knew his time was near and told us all. Still that in no way diminishes the impact of his loss. He already is sorely missed. God speed ol' man, God speed!

It would be a gift if someone could share this thread with Martine, that JALLEN, besides his full life with her, did so much to help and provoke thought in ours.

It has been said that when someone passes it is like burning a small library. Their stories, their life and experiences filled that space.

Now it is our place to reflect on our visits there, dust off the memories and pass them along. In this way JALLEN lives.

I wrote him an email a few weeks ago, I'm glad I did. It was nice to check in with him and share a moment, if only fleeting.

Godspeed my friend.
