I don't watch any of this guy's videos, even though they are constantly showing in recommended videos. My reasons for this are petty: because of the saturation level of his exposure, and because of his video's thumbnails, which always show this guy with his mouth open (a lot of youtubers do this, and it's quite annoying)

On top of that, I figured that there had to be some kind of gimmick and I just wasn't in on the joke. But, it turns out that the guy is legit.

I did see the thumbnail for his video this week, announcing that he was paying for the eye surgeries of 1000 people, but, as usual, I ignored it.

Well, take a look, guys. I thought I had seen it all. Nope. Who cares if he gets publicity out of this? Look at what he is doing. Imagine being one of the recipients of this charity.

I know who Mr Beast is, but I've never seen a single one of his videos. Nevertheless I am also aware he's probably the biggest youtuber going and has been for quite some time. He literally gets hundreds of millions of views a month I believe. Which is why this statement, "a contingent of viewers accused the content creator of performing a cynical stunt for the sake of attracting eyeballs to his channel," is especially retarded.

The guy can do almost anything to get over 50 million views it seems and probably has done some really juvenile and silly crap in an effort to do just that, but doing honest to God charity and suddenly people call him cynical and opportunist? Wtf? Some people in this world can only appreciate ugly things, and that's very sad.

If I recall correctly, Mr Beast has been doing giveaways for much of his YouTube career. The biggest one I saw was a contest where one hundred (I think) of his earliest subscribers competed against each other to win a small, private island. He also goes to stores and offers to buy whatever a person can carry or load into a cart or whatever in a certain amount of time.

He will always make more money than he gives away just based on how YouTube pays him for his viewership, but at least he's making many of the people he encounters happy in the moment.

2022 was the year I felt I had reached the point that nothing people in this society might say or do or complain about could possibly surprise me. I felt- honestly felt- I had seen it all. I held on to a glimmer of hope that certain acts demonstrating selflessness and/or great charity would be unimpeachable.

Perhaps his actions aren't selfless, but when someone does something like aiding in restoring sight to a thousand people- and giving the worst off of them 10,000 dollars on top of the surgery, well, that is true charity. At least he's doing something to help.

It seems that roughly half the population of the United States needs to be jettisoned in deep space- far, far away from this planet.

His story is actually pretty amazing. I had never watched any of his videos and he was on Joe Rogan one day. I went and watched a few of his videos and he has always been extremely charitable. His interview with Joe was actually quite interesting how he got started.

A lot of people say they don’t care about the money but this guy really doesn’t care about it for himself. He was making over 50 million a year and still living in some crappy apartment with two roomates. Once he became so popular they kept getting robbed so he built an apartment into the building he works at.

I remember him saying something to Joe Rogan where you could just see on Joes face like wtf how has no one ever thought of that.

The story was he has hired actors in every language imaginable to basically act out all of his “stunts”. Joe asked why he would do that. He said like 10% of the world speaks english so I’m missing out on 90% of the people. That’s how he gets 100’s of millions of followers.

I think he’s on the spectrum myself because he is singularly focused like I have never seen before.

One other charitable thing he did that I watched was he spent 54 million to build a couple of wells that pump something like 10,000 liters of water per day. It was life changing for so many people in the area. Many of the women would walk 8-10 hours every day just to get water and bring it back.

This italicizes for me that you can't make everyone happy. No matter what you do, someone is going to get chapped about it. My policy is to choose the right and let the consequence follow.

Yes, of course, but there are so many other things to bitch about than a man giving a helping hand to a thousand people.

Any gullibility which I may have possessed in my earlier years is long gone. The absence of rationality in a situation such as this is complete for some people. I felt (and somehow, still do) that certain acts of charity between one person and another would be so great, no one- no matter what their political leanings or outlook on the world- could possibly find fault.

His business model is to use the money generated from this video to fund the ever increasing generosity/spectacle of the next video. I have no problem with that. You can do better by doing good.

So, there must be a strong thread of jealousy running through these irrational complaints.

We have seen the same attitude towards Donald Trump. I'm not jealous of a man's wealth but some people who desire to be millionaires or billionaires don't want to see anyone else be more successful than they.

Wow, Sam Bankman-Fried was hyped as not caring about money and only wanted to make it to give it away-and the left loved him. Well, we know how that ended.

Mr. Beast funds life-changing surgery and the same crowd that adored SBF calls him out for it. I guess being an asshole is a genetic trait, because I can't see how anyone would rationalize this as being wrong.

I wonder if those that object to this man’s charity feel similarly about a politician making public announcements about spending tax payers money on one vote buying scheme or another? At least he is spending his own money.

It's 100% just jealously.

The thing is, he *makes* a bunch of money, but he's talked about almost all of the money goes right back into producing more videos. I'm sure he draws a decent salary and is setting some money aside for himself, but he spends millions in salaries for admin, creative, production, logistics in addition to outlays needed for prizes and and whatnot.

So yes. He needs a spectacle. He is, necessarily, promoting himself and his channel with his "philanthropy". It's the business model. When he stops monetizing the spectacle of it, it will all stop. He doesn't have an endowment set up to continue giving money earned in another career like Gates or Bezos. This *is* his career.

If I recall, his early videos were of himself going around and asking people for a couple of bucks, and then rewarding people for their generosity by paying them back in hundred dollar bills. He's come a long way.

People do this sort of thing to get their videos go viral and they make more money from the clicks than what they spent. But I really doubt the incremental money he earned equals what he spent.

If it's his own money he's using, more power to him. A lot of people do a lot of good; it's just that most of them don't advertise it or use it as content for a money making venture. If this is what he does, may his channel grow.

I've seen people go to third world countries, find a street vendor and then buy everything the vendor has. It's certainly a boon for the vendor.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." IIRC, that’s exactly how he got started. He didn’t have money. He had an idea, got together a few thousand dollars and gave it away in his first charity video, convinced that it would pay for itself in monetization from views, and it did. Then it just kind of snowballed from there. I think he may even have had someone loan him the money to give away at first, but it quickly started paying for itself.

So yeah, now he’s loaded, but he’s completely self-made and self-funding, which makes these “rich guy just wants attention” assholes particularly imbecilic.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

I see nothing wrong with this. The guy is just going around making people happy. Yes he makes a spectacle of it, that then generates more money to one up his last giveaway.

How anyone can be upset about someone who's made it their career to make people happy escapes me. Just be happy there are more happy people because of this guy.

Commies can be such buzz kills.
