Please take good care of your mom. Your kindness won’t be forgotten. We will be here when you return.

That is a honorable, good reason to be away, but as has been mentioned stop in when you need a diversion. Consider it a mental health break.

Best to your family.

Good luck Hamden.

I hope all goes well with your Mom. There are elderly parents who don't have adult children who will step up and help when it's needed. You're a good son. Take your time and just check in when you can.

Update.
I have had a bit more time late at night to be here than I thought I was going to have.
Mother is doing good for 97. But her memory is becoming a blank between today, and 20+ years ago. Daughter, Son, and I have been working on Mother to willingly move closer to them and the greatgrandkids. I would move too. Mother is very stubbornly set on "her" things and place. And is in denial. It is difficult and requires more patience than I usually have.

My absence was over a year. I had life intervene, kids heading to college, covid, all the things going on. I have received a very nice welcome back.

Step through the gate, take care of what you need to, sig forum will be here for you when you can return.

It is the kind of people we are.

Take good care of her, but still poke your head in every now and then.

I have heard it said that God sees every sparrow that falls from the sky. The members of Sig-forum may not be that good, but my experience is they are pretty darned attentive when it comes to keeping up with the well-being of long-time contributors.

Best to you Hamden.

Just went through this for the last 3 years. Mom was 92 when she passed in August. It's hard.

Wife and I were her daily care, she insisted in living in her home, so that made it harder.

Finally got her into a house with several private rooms and 24hr care from professionals which beats the heck out of an institution.

Now my non involved sibling is running me through the system over estate issues.

No good deed goes unpunished in my case.

Best to ya man!

My wife went through it with her mother. She doesn't have dementia, but refused to leave her own house, even when she was, essentially immobile. It is tough.

God Speed, Hamden106. Perhaps I should advise you are describing ~MY~ own mother in her own journey a few decades back.
