Well, November 2nd I was going to work and a deer running full out ran into the side of my car. I was going 60 MPH, the deer appears in the opposite lane about a half of car length from me. I hit the breaks hoping for the best, knowing that no matter what there will be contact. The large doe ran into the drivers side wheel, lifting the front end off the ground, Initiating a 360° spin, inwhich the drivers door makes contact with her and slings her back across the road about 4 feet in the air, and the car makes a 180° spin, and travels about 200ft backwards ending backwards in the ditch. I hit my head on the drivers side window, police and EMS arrive and the police take the report, EMS checks me out and transport me to the ER. ER doctor checks me out and says that I don't have a concussion, but it's been a week+ and I still don't feel "right". Insurance gives a quote of $4750.00 to repair the car, the body shop gives it at $8095.00. This is in the middle of kidney stones that I'll be going the 20th for Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (SWL). This is the 3rd time deer have RUN INTO THE SIDE OF MY CAR. twice I was stopped when they hit me. This time I was going 60 MPH. By the GPS I actually picked up speed in the spin, hit 70 MPH before gaining some control before going into the ditch. Be careful, tis the season. ARman

Wow, glad you are alright. I have hit a few deer in my time. None knocked the car out of control. Just a bang and pull over. Small car I guess. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

What time of day was this? Early morning? What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

It was 5:43 AM exactly. Funny thing is, I woke up that morning and thought about calling off, for a "mental health day", but decided to go to work. The puppy was given me troubles, and I was running late. I should have already been at work when it happened. So, if I was to have listened to the voices in my head and stayed home, or wasn't running behind, this would have never happened. ARman

Yep, high time now. I just saw another that I think hit a deer last eve, very fresh. Last week another pretty smashed up from a deer. It looks like yours was a kamikaze deer, full speed out of the ditch. I’m doing some prep today for my MI deer hunting & family visit. Won’t matter much, maybe I’ll take one out of the equation. Over the years I hit 3. In all cases it was lighter damage. I was able to slow with 2, the other I was driving an early 70’s, stout vehicle. When able, in a higher likelihood area, I prefer to follow a semi truck. I don’t mean tailgate, but most won’t be locking up the brakes, or slow that fast.

You hit the same deer twice? There should be bonus points for that! How was the road? Wet, icy, snow covered? I’m having trouble picturing a 100lb deer, not shot out of a cannon, spinning a 3,200lb car 540 degrees. I can quite easily imagine a quick jerk of the steering wheel to the right to avoid the deer coming from the left and hitting the brakes hard causing the car to spin. Admittedly, I have zero deer hitting experience. I’ve been fortunate to miss them between a dozen and two dozen times in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and even once just this year in Florida. On the other hand, I have way more experience spinning cars out than anyone really should have. I’ve also been hit twice near the drivers side front wheel by other vehicles running stop signs. Once in my 1986 Honda CRX by a larger vehicle and once in my 2015 F350 by a PT cruiser. Neither collision caused my vehicle to spin.

Just about everyone around here has had run-ins with deer. In '95 my wife bought a beautiful brand new T-Bird, and I swear, the deer would stand around in the fields at night just waiting to attack that thing when she'd come home from work. ------------------------------------------------ "It's hard to imagine a more stupid or dangerous way of making decisions, than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong." This is the time of year when deer are all over the roads around here. Glad you were not injured ARman. "But, as luck would have it, he stood up. He caught that chunk of lead." Over the years, while living in Montana, I have killed 5 deer on the road. None of the wrecks were close to that in terms of damage. This really makes me sad. I'm glad you're okay. Wow, the difference between the estimate and shop is almost a double supplemental. Hope they don't total it. If so, at least the hood was spared, mostly. The wrx hatch is a dream car and I was disappointed when it was discontinued. Now begins the battle wagon conversion. Quick Google search told me mica blue is about the only color deer see, but not at full speed, apparently. So, what merited 8k? Frame? I hope you can keep it.

Sorry for your injury and damage to your vehicle. It could have been worse. Other than being suicidal, deer along with other critters can be assaultive and cause intentional damage. That’s why we as a society are at war with them, most notably, during hunting season. Beware! Working these accidents is almost a daily call for service here in the Texas Hill Country. Daily, deer and other animals like wild hogs get whacked or whack, but many contusion without stopping or to report the incident. Because these incidents are so plentiful, we only will complete a crash report if injury occurs or property damage occurs like fences, guardrails, signs, etc. Retired Texas Lawman

I'm glad you're ok. That type of hit and roller coaster ride will take a while for your body to get back to normal. What's interesting to me is after the initial hit, the spinning and air time, you still have problems with kidney stones. I'd have thought that should've knocked them loose.

Tis the season here in the Yoop for Deer strikes. My main Deer related Feer (fear) is hitting one on my motorcycle. In my new part time job I drive a Chevy Sonic. A go cart with a roof. The Yooper Deer are bigger than it is! End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

My girlfriend was a newspaper distributor for over 30 years. About the last 20 years she did she was out in the country 7 nights a week. She hit or they hit her 17 deer. _______________________________________________________ And no, junior not being able to hold still for 5 seconds is not a disability.

Glad you're okay. I had a close call several months back while riding my motorcycle. She missed me by inches. A few minutes after that, a dog ran in front of me. I decided to quit riding for the day. I am glad you are OK and good luck with the kidney stones. The deer around here have gone beyond being a nuisance, they are a hazard. Even driving in town after dark is a risk. I have never seen them so plentiful before. Maybe less people hunting them or more people feeding them. "Prepared in mind and resources"
